The book explores the physiological and psychological underpinnings of stress, highlighting how chronic stress impacts brain function and overall well-being. It underscores that consistent relaxation practices serve as a proactive strategy for enhancing resilience and improving cognitive function, helping individuals actively control their stress response.

This self-help guide presents a diverse toolkit of relaxation techniques, including mindfulness meditation, diaphragmatic breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation, providing step-by-step instructions supported by scientific evidence. For example, studies show meditation's effect on brain activity and the impact of breathing exercises on heart rate variability. The book progresses from understanding stress physiology to mastering various techniques, culminating in a personalized relaxation plan tailored to individual needs, making complex concepts manageable and actionable for a broad audience seeking practical self-help strategies.

The book is structured in three parts, beginning with the fundamentals of stress physiology and psychology and then delving into an array of relaxation techniques. It emphasizes accessibility and practicality by avoiding jargon and using a conversational style. The final part of the book focuses on integrating these techniques into daily routines and addressing potential challenges to help the audience achieve a more relaxed and focused state of mind.

They are called the Greatest Generation, but they were also ordinary men, responding to the call of duty. These are their unforgettable stories—first-person accounts from the last of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who fought the most dreadful war in history, all collected by a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The idea was simple: travel across the country with a 1945 M1 Garand, the basic U.S. fighting rifle of World War II, ask combat veterans of that war to sign it, and listen carefully as the rifle evoke a flood of memories and emotions. Andrew Biggio once again reveals the astonishing effect his M1 Garand had on the old warriors who held it. In Biggio's riveting account, you will learn:

    ● What it was like to fight for freedom in the various theaters of World War II

    ● The obstacles these world-conquerors faced on returning home and how they overcame them

    ● The special meaning these recollections hold for later combat vets, confirming the brotherhood of warriors

    ● The importance to veterans of memory and respect

Biggio's inspirational second collection is a must-listen for anyone interested in the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

This piece, which appeared in Outside magazine in 1995 and was originally recorded for "Rough Water: Stories of Survival From The Sea," is about an old man, a Bequian harpooner, who uses a wooden sailboat to hunt humpback whales. The piece is an elegy of sorts--an unsentimental lament for something lost.

Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (October 30, 1885 - November 1, 1972), born in what is now Hailey, Idaho, was a major American figure in the early modernist poetry movement, and a fascist collaborator in Italy during World War II. Angered by the carnage of World War I, Pound blamed the war on finance capitalism, which he called "usury". He moved to Italy in 1924, and through the 1930s and 1940s promoted an economic theory known as social credit, wrote for publications owned by the British fascist Sir Oswald Mosley, embraced Benito Mussolini's fascism, and expressed support for Adolf Hitler. During World War II and the Holocaust in Italy, he made hundreds of paid radio broadcasts for the Italian government attacking the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt and, above all, Jews. He was arrested in 1945 by American forces in Italy on charges of treason, spending months in a U.S. military camp in Pisa--including three weeks in an outdoor steel cage. Deemed unfit to stand trial, he was incarcerated in St. Elizabeth's psychiatric hospital in Washington, D.C., for over 12 years. After a campaign by his fellow writers, he was released from St. Elizabeth's in 1958 and lived in Italy until his death in 1972.
