The body is doing what it has...

    Brahma Khumaris

Recently I experienced a major stroke. I was completely paralyzed on the right side of my body. It was a “Stroke” of good fortune. This is our opportunity as Brahmins, to transform those which others would view as tragedy into an accumulation of power and blessings. My first thought when I was laying in the hospital, on the first day was “where the hell is Baba when you need him?” I had a typical, unknowledgeable, weak, and powerless reaction, which caused sorrow. The second day, an instrument sister brought a murli and read it to me in which Baba answered me saying “Baba only helps those who have courage”. Now my thought was “I have the most courage of anyone I know.” And I decided at that moment to put it into practice. Instead of the old bhakti sanskars playing their endless tune of begging for help etc. I decided to claim my rights as a child of the king. Instantly I found myself in Baba’s lap. Never did he leave me after that, nor did I leave him. Baba has told us that if we take one small step of courage, he will carry us another thousand etc. That was my practical experience.

“A great introduction to the kamado grill, with excellent recipes not just for grilling, smoking, and smoke-roasting but also for baking and braising.” —Chris Schlesinger, coauthor of The Thrill of the Grill   With its distinctive egg or oval shape, heat-insulating ceramics, and airtight seal, the kamado is a smoker’s dream, able to maintain low and slow temperatures for up to twelve hours with no additional charcoal needed. It’s the “set it and forget it” of smokers!   In addition to smoking, grillmaster Fred Thompson has discovered that the kamado is a wonderful all-round grill. Its ability to maintain precise temperatures means it can take on most any task—grilling, roasting, braising, steaming, even baking—guaranteeing a succulent result infused with delicious smoke flavor.   The Kamado Grill Cookbook contains 193 lip-smackin’-good recipes for everything from brisket and pork shoulder to seafood, poultry, lamb, vegetables, and more. Explore the reaches of what the kamado can do: smoke your own bacon and sausage; fire it up for Bourbon-Glazed Bone-in Ribeye Steaks; feed friends and family with an Old-Fashioned Oyster Roast; or end a meal with a kamado-baked Pig-Picking Fudge Cake. Fred will get you started on the right track with Kamado Basics, a primer chapter on everything you need to know to get the very best results from your kamado grill.   “Fred Thompson thinks like a flame and always knows what every ingredient wants . . . and why.” —Peter Kaminsky, coauthor of Mallmann on Fire

Sun & Ssukgat - The Korean Art...

    Michelle Jungmin Bang

A charming, life-changing guide to living a longer, happier, healthier life, rooted in Korean self-care. From the country scientists predict will top longevity charts in 2030.
Ssukgat, or Chrysanthemum greens, are treasured in Korean culture for their healing abilities. You can coax its withered stalks to bloom again, with sun, water, soil, and care. It’s a fitting metaphor for eco-entrepreneur and CEO Michelle Jungmin Bang, who found herself in excruciating pain due to the constant sacrificing of her health and wellness for work—a trade many of us make daily.
Thus started her fascinating journey to overhaul her health and reconnect with her heritage in South Korea. She found answers in the mountains with Buddhist nuns and the keys to microbiome health, a seaside village with haenyeo (female free divers who forage for seafood) and their practice of healing with breath, centenarians with easily adoptable daily habits, and Korean bathhouse culture and its “wellness for everyone” approach to youthful skin. Natural, effective, and environmentally conscious, these ancient traditions have been passed down for centuries in Asia, like gifted heirlooms, and they quietly and radically shift our philosophies on well-being towards preventative care.
Informed by her travels, research, and East-West nutrition training, Michelle reflects on how we can eat for healing, live sustainably, reconnect with nature, form deeper relationships with the Korean concept of Jeong (the warm, invisible connection between loved ones and places), and more. Also included are simple and delicious healing recipes that can be used for recovery, like a mushroom broth the Buddhist nuns turn to for colds; her grandmother’s secret Myeolchi (anchovy) broth; Samgyetang (chicken and ginseng soup) for combatting fatigue; as well as Hoedeopbap (raw fish bibimbap), her most-requested dish that requires no cooking.
Sun & Ssukgat is on a mission to empower anyone stuck in the unhealthy whirlwind of modern life to transform our well-being in the little things we do every single day.
