The club was as upmarket and vibrant as Eve had suggested.

Chic waitresses in skimpy outfits served overpriced drinks to a group of nice looking people in their thirties, mostly.

The place was smaller than I’d expected.

“When I think about a trendy place, I guess I expected something bigger.”

She laughed. “This is just part of it. I read about this place online. This is the entry hall,” she said.

“What do you mean?”

She nodded toward a door. I looked and saw a small, innocuous door. A sign over it said: “Doorway to the wild side.”

“Weird,” I said. “Why are we out here?”

“This is the public bar. Anyone can drop in and have a drink. It’s a pickup place. For some people, most people, this is it. But on the other side of that door… Well, the Wild Side is a private club and by invitation only.”

“And how do you get an invitation to enter?”

She licked her lips. “You have to entice a member. Make them think you are ready and willing for a walk on the wild side.”

As she said that, a young, clean-cut guy in an expensive suit came over to our table and looked us over.

“Hello,” he said, cheerfully. “Mind if I join you?”

I nodded and he took a stool between us at the high table.

Having him there was fine with me. There were a lot of muscles under that suit. He had to be over six-two and probably weighed in at over two hundred pounds.

“New here?” he asked.

“Just arrived,” Eve said. “But you knew that.”

“How do you know of the place?”

Eve was grinning and leaning back a little to give him a view of her cleavage.

“Hot rumors suggest it's a fun place. Which is why we came.”

“I’m James,” he said.

“And you are a member,” I said.

He looked at me and I liked the way he looked at me. “I am.”

“James…” Eve said. “James Erickson. You used to be a running back, a top pro.”

“Until a hard tackle damaged my knee. Now I sell real estate.”

Eve ran her hand over his arm and clearly liked what she felt.

“But you stay in shape.”

“I try to.”

James put a hand on each of our backs. It was a large, strong hand and as he let it run down lower, it felt hot.

It didn’t help that I was incredibly horny.

“Tell us about the club.” Eve put her hand on his thigh.

“It’s a lovely place where people don’t bother you when you want to do wild things.”

“Sounds lovely,” Eve said.

He laughed. “Like the name says. You go in there, you can expect to have someone want you to try some things you’ve probably never tried before.”

I took a breath. The most outrageous sexual experience I’d ever had was a one-night stand.

Now, with James’ warm eyes running over me, I felt like I might be willing to try a number of things.

“I see.”

“I’m in,” Eve said.  “How about it, Tani?”

Africa may have given rise to the first humans, and Egypt probably gave rise to the first great civilizations, which continue to fascinate modern societies across the globe nearly 5,000 years later. From the Library and Lighthouse of Alexandria to the Great Pyramid at Giza, the Ancient Egyptians produced several wonders of the world, revolutionized architecture and construction, created some of the world’s first systems of mathematics and medicine, and established language and art that spread across the known world.
For almost four millennia, the Great Pyramids of Ancient Egypt have been widely hailed as the single greatest archeological feat man has ever accomplished. The Great Pyramid at Giza is the only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world to have survived into the modern age. Unlike so many pieces of the historical record which have been “re-discovered,” relatively recently (in the grand scheme of things,” in their four thousand years of existence, the Great Pyramids have never allowed themselves to be truly forgotten by the human civilization which has never ceased to regard them with wonder and awe.
Egypt also impressed its contemporaries. The 5th century B.C. Greek historian Herodotus wrote that Egypt was “the gift of the Nile” because the river made its soil so fertile and thus helped create one of the first great civilizations. Indeed, the land of Egypt so impressed the Greeks that when Alexander the Great conquered the Nile Valley in the 4th century B.C., he decided that he would build a new city on its soil and name it Alexandria. After Alexander, the city of Alexandria grew and became the most important city in the world for centuries as it watched and played a role in the rise and fall of numerous dynasties. The city also became home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – the Lighthouse of Alexandria – and a center of culture and learning, which was exemplified by the Library of Alexandria.

The world was and is in many areas in a turmoil: pandemic, war, energy scarcity, wheat price explosion, and many others. And everything is either impacted or has an impact on global economy. And on the top of it: Christians are in the midst of it. Therefore it matters how Christians think about the economy and act in the economy. It informs their choices as consumers and voters as well as entrepreneurs. The many crises also laid bare the injustices of our economic system and demonstrated that change is necessary. This publication presents reflections and ideas of Christians how to engage and bring change in our economy in light of these challenges. The many writers who contributed to this publication present their ideas from different angles. Nevertheless they clearly also converge when it comes to the direction we need to take. This book has been edited by Rev. Timo Plutschinski, Director of the World Evangelical Alliance´s Business Coalition.

Only two species of mammal have a post-reproductive life that lasts longer than their reproductive life: the killer whale, whose elders are able to sniff out food supplies over vast oceanic distances to keep their pods fed, and Homo sapiens. While the evolutionary purpose of the killer whale's extensive life seems clear, what is the point of ours?

This was a question that intrigued psychoanalyst Carl Jung, who observed that if a culture is to maintain its deepest, profoundest roots while moving forward to embrace the challenges of historical and technological change, it needs to find an equilibrium between the energy, vigour and creativity of those in the ego-driven first half of life and the experience, dignity and wisdom of those in the second. But to make it to that second half of life, we need to traverse the dreaded 'middle years', when so many of us find ourselves discontent with our jobs, unhappy in our relationships and lamenting our fetishized youths.

Drawing on history, psychology, science and literature, Jamieson shows just how ubiquitous, and crucial, the 'midlife crisis' is, and the devastating consequences for society at large if we continue to regard it as something we can, and should, avoid.

Mobilised by the rousing words and protests of Greta Thunberg, young people all over the globe are calling for more action to combat climate change and better protect their futures. Yet they cannot do this alone. They are reliant on people in positions of power to set the necessary changes in motion - and these people include their own school leaders operating within their own local communities. This book is a rallying cry for all schools to unleash their potential to deliver a brighter future for both their pupils and society at large.David Dixon draws on both his doctoral research and his 20 years' experience as a head teacher to set out how school leaders can embed eco-friendly practices in the day-to-day running of their schools that will also contribute to overall school improvement, including that recognised by inspectors.David weaves his guidance around the 'five Cs of sustainability' - captaincy, curriculum, campus, community and connections - to position sustainability as a natural vehicle for developing a type of fully integrated learning ecology and culture for the benefit of all.The book provides a detailed analysis of where we are now in terms of environmental impact, and lays out a road map to help schools move towards more effective eco-friendly provision. It shares practical examples of sustainability in schools and how these contribute to school improvement in the wider, more conventional sense too. Furthermore, each chapter concludes with a series of suggested strategies to encourage further thought and discussions among school stakeholders.Suitable for school leaders, teachers and teacher trainers - in both primary and secondary settings - and for any professionals who work in schools on environmental education or improvement projects.
