  Growing up in Charleston, South Carolina during the 1960's and 70's was not easy for Marvin Leroy Alston who later changed his name to Dadisi Mwende Netifnet . Raised by a good tight-knitted family, Dadisi still found time to visit some immoral places. Those distractions cause him to be placed in Special Education classes. Dadisi came to the realization after graduating from high school in 1977 that he had to move away from Charleston in order to save his life. Moving to Atlanta, Georgia and joining the Shrines of the Black Madonna Church in 1978 awaken him to a new consciousness. Dadisi soon discovered that he had the talent to write poetry. He became the recipient for the 2002 Shakespeare trophy and gold medallion for his poem "Sunshine Lady" by the National Poetry Society. In spite of the many challenges he had to face. Dadisi never gave up on improving his life. This family saga will have you listening to the very end.

  Ittingen Charterhouse

  The last monks left Ittingen Charterhouse in 1848. The buildings, which had been built over centuries, passed into the possession of the Canton of Thurgau and later private owners, who used them as a stately residence and model farm. Since 1977, the Ittingen Charterhouse Foundation has operated the complex as a cultural and meeting centre, which also houses two cantonal museums. The excellently preserved site provides a lively insight into the history of the place and its former inhabitants. The monks’ cells, cloister gardens and richly furnished rococo church allow visitors to form a direct impression of how the Carthusians perceived of themselves as hermits in the community.

  Kaffe Fassett has led an extraordinary life and is a captivating storyteller with a vivid memory. Born in 1937, he spent much of his youth in Big Sur, California, where his parents bought a cabin from Orson Welles and transformed it into the world-famous Nepenthe restaurant, a gathering place for artists and bohemians. After attending a boarding school run by the disciples of Krishnamurti, an Indian guru, he studied painting at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, then traveled to England, where he made his home. After an inspiring trip to Inverness, Scotland, Fassett began designing knitwear for Bill Gibb, and then the Missonis, Vogue magazine, and private clients like Lauren Bacall and Barbra Streisand, and, in the process, revolutionized the handknitting world with his explosive use of color. Further explorations led him to needlepoint, mosaics, rugmaking, tapestries, yarn and fabric design, costume and set design, and quilting. Now in his seventies, Fassett continues to produce new work and to travel worldwide to teach and lecture. In this intimate autobiography, Fassett shares rich, detailed stories about his lifelong creative journey as well as hundreds of glorious photos taken along the way.

  Xia Dynasty - The Myth and...

  The Xia Dynasty is often considered the first dynasty of China, marking the transition from a prehistoric era dominated by tribal alliances to a structured monarchy. However, much of what is known about the Xia comes from ancient texts written centuries later, blurring the line between history and legend. At the heart of this foundation myth is Yu the Great, a figure credited with taming the catastrophic floods that once plagued the Yellow River region. 
  According to traditional accounts, China before the Xia was ruled by the Five Emperors, semi-mythical sages who brought order and knowledge to early societies. The final ruler of this period, Emperor Shun, recognized Yu for his brilliance and appointed him to control the devastating floods that had threatened agricultural settlements for generations. Unlike his predecessors, who attempted to block or divert the waters, Yu devised a system of dredging and canal-building that allowed the floodwaters to drain naturally into rivers and the sea. His efforts reportedly took over a decade, during which he traveled across the land, surveying the terrain and directing large-scale labor projects. His selfless dedication won him the admiration of the people, and his success in flood control cemented his reputation as a leader with the Mandate of Heaven. 
  The concept of the Mandate of Heaven, though later fully developed under the Zhou Dynasty, has its roots in the Xia period. It suggested that rulers were chosen by divine will and that their legitimacy depended on their ability to maintain order and prosperity. Yu's ability to tame the floods demonstrated both his virtue and his right to rule. Upon Emperor Shun’s abdication, Yu became the first king of the Xia Dynasty, establishing a hereditary monarchy that would continue for generations.
