Summary

“The Miracle of St. Anthony”—whatever the exact date of its writing, and that is a point which the author himself has probably forgotten,—belongs in flavour and spirit, to that early period of the career of the Belgian seer and mystic to which Mr. James Huneker referred when he wrote “There is no denying the fact that at one time Maeterlinck meant for most people a crazy crow, masquerading in tail feathers plucked from the Swan of Avon.” For it was to Shakespeare that he was first compared, though the title “the Belgian Shakespeare” was applied ironically by some, just as later manifestationsof his genius won for him the appellation of “the Belgian Emerson.

    Thin Black Road
    There’s a thin black road
    I have traveled many times.
    It leads to peace
    In so many ways.
It’s kind of hard to describe
    For the road’s oft unclear.
    It unfolds to me
    Like a lovely gift
    One word at a time.
Then, music fills in the gaps,
    Making worries fade away,
    As unexplainable peace pours in.
    There’s a thin black road
    It leads me to peace.
When good or ill tidings come
    To threaten my equilibrium,
    I will travel that road
    And return to peaceful calm.

Literal Life Lessons is a collection of poems capturing the tender, hauntingly human frailties of the poet and the persons she has observed over the years. The poems draw the reader into real life, familiar experiences and into thought-provoking realizations. Nothing is spared in depicting the underbelly and vulnerabilities of humanity. Author's Bio Mother, veteran, former interpretative national park ranger, retired educator, poet and activist, Sandra Nelms-Ludwig was born and raised in rural Bedford County, Virginia, nestled beneath the Blue Ridge Mountains. She began writing poetry at age 12 and has performed in numerous poetry slams and open mics both in Germany and America. Her poetry has appeared in two chapbooks, Litspeak at Hollins University in 1994 and Mouth Music at Big Island, Virginia, in 1997. This collection is her first book of poetry to be published and is a sampling of her writing from over the past 50 years. She presently resides with her Cocker Spaniel, Sir Duke, in Virginia.

When 'intimidating' Rachel and eternal 'nice guy' Nick meet at an awkward work Christmas party, what was meant to be a one-night-stand becomes a sexual odyssey of self-discovery… and mutual destruction.
Adrift, isolated and insecure, they scramble for new ways to connect. Can some playful, passionate pegging provide a pathway through the pitfalls of modern relationships and present the possibility of a deeper bond?
A penetrating comedy about the search for sexual knowledge, true love and top-notch Tupperware, Lisa Carroll's play The Misandrist was first produced by Metal Rabbit Productions at the Arcola Theatre, London, in May 2023.
'A witty dramedy that explores the contemporary search for intimacy… portrays male vulnerability exceptionally well… The writing is delightfully caustic and acerbic… precise, political, unforgiving… unceasingly entertaining' - Broadway World
'Funny and frank… revelling in its exuberance and the celebration of sexuality… there's a great energy to the show and it offers plenty of saucy humour' - Reviews Hub
'A no-holds-barred insight into contemporary relationships, laced with sharp lines and dark humour… a zeitgeisty play that shows great promise, and confirms Carroll as a writer to watch' - WhatsOnStage
'Powerful with some very funny lines... has attitude to spare' - Time Out
'A smart, passionate and deeply knotty relationship dramedy… alive with warmth and wit… refreshingly transgressive… the writing has a real jagged edge… lays bare the many complications of modern life' - Lost in Theatreland

Charles Dickens' 1854 novel opens with the philosophy of education espoused by the eminently practical Mr. Gradgrind, who prizes "facts and calculations." He raises his children, most prominently Louisa and Tom, to eschew imagination and emotion and embrace order and reason. The results are disastrous: Louisa marries out of duty to the supposed self-made man Mr. Bounderby, while Tom grows up dissolute, ultimately commits theft and blames it on an unfortunate laborer, Stephen Blackpool. Set in the fictional Coketown, a mill town in the north of England, Dickens' novel satirizes capitalism, social mobility, class stratification, and Utilitarianism. This dramatic reading of the novel features a full cast of LibriVox volunteers, who lend their voices to Dickens' vibrant comic characters. (Summary by Elizabeth Klett)

Dorian Gray – handsome, hedonistic, narcissistic – sells his soul for eternal beauty. Basil and Henry join him for the ride until it all goes too far, and the hangovers become murderous...
Oscar Wilde's only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, was a succès de scandale on its publication in 1891, accused of violating the laws of public morality. It immediately captured the minds of its readers, the spirit of the age, and the soul of a man with nothing to declare but his genius.
This thrilling stage adaptation by Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Owen Horsley follows one man's descent from glorious debauchery to epic self-destruction, intertwined with Wilde's own life story, his tragic persecution, and ultimate imprisonment in Reading Gaol. Its first full production premiered at Reading Rep Theatre in October 2021.
