Beschreibung

Runner-up for the Hugo Best Related Book Award (2003)The Battle of the Sexes in Science Fiction is a lively account of the role of women and feminism in the development of American science fiction during its formative years, the mid-20th century. Beginning in 1926, with the publication of the first issue of Amazing Stories, Justine Larbalestier examines science fiction's engagement with questions of femininity, masculinity, sex and sexuality. She traces the debates over the place of women and feminism in science fiction as it emerged in stories, letters and articles in science fiction magazines and fanzines. The book culminates in the story of James Tiptree, Jr. and the eponymous Award. Tiptree was a successful science fiction writer of the 1970s who was later discovered to be a woman. Tiptree's easy acceptance by the male-dominated publishing arena of the time proved that there was no necessary difference in the way men and women wrote, but that there was a real difference in the way they were read.

A crisis of polarization more and more threatens the future of civilization. Whether it’s philosophy, theology, politics, or culture, we find ourselves falling into stark either/or dilemmas: Religion or science? Conservative or liberal? Faith or works? We can’t help but choose one idea at the expense of the other, falling into zero-sum games, mutual extremes, and the endless division of human life.   In The Way of Heaven and Earth, Matthew Becklo offers a way of interpreting this crisis: Christ and “the Catholic both/and.” Framing our greatest dilemmas as “heaven-earth dilemmas”—choices between God or man, God’s place or man’s place, the spiritual or the physical, or the spirit or the flesh—Becklo shows that our greatest hope for overcoming our divisions is in Christ, who is “the Way of heaven and earth,” and the Catholic Church, which is the fullness of the Way.   With the help of Scripture, Catholic teaching, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, and various philosophers, theologians, and artists, The Way of Heaven and Earth finds new hope in this forgotten Way, which calls us into the paradoxes of the human journey.

What if everything you believed about good and evil was born not from truth… but from resentment?
Enter the piercing world of Friedrich Nietzsche, where morality is not sacred—but suspect. In On the Genealogy of Morality, one of philosophy’s most provocative voices unearths the hidden origins of our most cherished values, exposing how power, guilt, and fear shaped the very fabric of human conscience.
Nietzsche, the father of existentialism and herald of the Übermensch, dismantles the illusions of traditional morality with fearless intensity. In this daring trilogy of essays, he asks: What drives our moral judgments? Who benefits from them? And what lies beneath our modern sense of “justice”?
You’ll be drawn into his ruthless critique of Christian morality, a biting exploration of guilt and punishment, and a haunting dissection of ascetic ideals—each part revealing deeper currents of psychological and cultural manipulation. Nietzsche does not give answers; he cracks open the foundations.
More than a century later, his ideas continue to echo through philosophy, literature, and modern thought, challenging generations to confront uncomfortable truths. This audiobook invites you to walk the razor’s edge of moral certainty, where Nietzsche’s insights remain disturbingly relevant in an age of social dogmas and ideological fervor.
Narrated with crisp, articulate AI-voicing, this edition offers exceptional clarity—ideal for absorbing the complex rhythms of Nietzsche’s prose. Let his questions haunt you, provoke you, and perhaps even liberate you.
Dare to listen. Dare to question. Add On the Genealogy of Morality to your collection now—and begin the descent into the shadows of your own beliefs.

Classical Japan - Art Power and...

The classical era of Japan was defined by a rich interplay of art, power, and evolving traditions, spanning the Nara, Heian, and Kamakura periods. The Nara Period saw the establishment of Japan’s first permanent capital, heavily influenced by Chinese culture, with Buddhism gaining prominence and shaping religious and artistic developments.
The Heian Period marked the height of imperial court culture, where poetry, literature, and refined aesthetics flourished under the rule of aristocratic families like the Fujiwara. It was also during this time that the kana writing system emerged, giving rise to literary masterpieces such as The Tale of Genji. As courtly elegance gave way to the rise of the samurai, the Kamakura Shogunate ushered in a new era of warrior rule, led by the Minamoto clan.
The establishment of a military government transformed Japan’s political landscape, laying the groundwork for feudal society while facing external threats like the Mongol invasions. These three periods together shaped Japan’s cultural and political identity, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to influence the nation today.
