Sinopse

The Spiritual Practice of Watching Movies
What's your favorite Christmas movie? Easter movie? Pentecost movie? Casual viewers and movie buffs alike have favorite movies to watch at certain times of the year. But for film critic Abby Olcese, movies with spiritual themes aren't just limited to the holiday season. They're part of a deep human need to connect our favorite stories to the natural rhythms of our lives, and to let them shape and give meaning to our experience of the seasons all year long.
The life of the church is also defined by stories, which we revisit through the pattern of the Christian year. In Films for All Seasons, Olcese invites us to reflect on the great themes of the church calendar through the lens of film. From superhero movies and Star Wars to classics and arthouse films, she chooses movies for each liturgical season and leads us through them with skill and infectious enthusiasm, exploring how each one can inform and deepen our appreciation of its corresponding season.
Films for All Seasons is more than just a book about movies—it's a model for how we engage with art as Christians.
Includes:

- Explorations of popular, classic, and arthouse films and how they relate to liturgical seasons
- Reflections on the great themes of the church calendar
- Discussion questions after each movie designed to facilitate discussion with small groups and friends

Her unexpected, insightful, and often delightful methodology is sought after by leaders and professionals for whom failure is catastrophic. Luckily for us, these tactics work—no matter the problem's scale or complexity. And we don't need an art degree or previous knowledge about art to benefit from her approach, only a willingness to open our eyes and our minds. Yes, things go wrong all the time. What matters most is what we do to fix them.

How I Found the Lost Atlantis!...

    Dr. Paul Schliemann

The article on which this audio book is based was published in the 'New York American' on October 20th, 1912.
The author, Dr. Paul Schliemann, was the grandson of Heinrich Schliemann (1822 - 1890), a founder of modern archaeology. In this famous archaeological hoax he makes outrageous and sensational claims about the lost continent Atlantis, and his grandfather’s research.
The text was written in an age when many of the Victorian adventure writers, like H. Rider Haggard in Britain, Emilio Salgari in Italy and Karl May in Germany topped reading lists. In 1912, the jungle calls of Tarzan echoed through American pulp magazines for the very first time.
Paul Schliemann capitalizes on the contemporary craze for his grandfather’s archaeological discoveries, for lost worlds and legendary characters like the queen of Sheba and Prester John. Since 1907, Howard Carter had been excavating in Egypt, and in 1922 Carter made his historical discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Paul Schliemann’s article is highly entertaining, and features passages reminiscent of Indiana Jones. Michael Henrik Wynn, the editor of the educational net radio stream Historyradio.org, gives a spirited performance of what has become a classic and much loved hoax in archaeological circles.
