Summary

Warfare Doctrine examines the often-overlooked yet vital domain of water warfare, dissecting its doctrines and operational strategies through official military publications and technical reports. It explores the evolution of naval doctrine, highlighting how major powers adapt their strategic thinking to emerging technologies and geopolitical shifts. The book also analyzes tactical innovations in amphibious warfare and riverine operations, crucial for power projection in littoral zones and inland waterways. Understanding these strategies is essential, as control of maritime spaces significantly impacts trade, resource access, and military dominance. The book uniquely integrates technological advancements with adaptable strategic thinking, arguing that successful water warfare hinges on this seamless combination. Drawing from primary sources like strategic doctrines, field manuals, and after-action reports, it offers a nuanced understanding of historical and contemporary naval power.

For example, the book details how submarine warfare strategies and naval aviation play pivotal roles in modern maritime conflicts. Progressing from fundamental principles to specific aspects like mine warfare, it culminates in an exploration of the future of water warfare, examining emerging technologies and their potential impact on doctrine and operational planning. This study is invaluable for military strategists, policymakers, historians, and academics interested in military history, political science, and technology studies. It connects international relations with military strategy, revealing how political objectives, technological capabilities, and military actions intertwine. By providing a holistic view of water warfare doctrine, the book examines its theoretical underpinnings, operational manifestations, and future trajectory, offering a comprehensive assessment of seapower and military strategy in the maritime domain.

The Zhou Dynasty emerged as a dominant force in ancient China following the decline of the Shang Dynasty. Its rise was marked by strategic alliances, military conquests, and the introduction of the Mandate of Heaven, a concept that would define Chinese rulership for centuries. The Zhou people, originally a semi-nomadic tribe living in the Wei River Valley, gradually expanded their influence through diplomacy and warfare, positioning themselves as challengers to Shang authority.
King Wen of Zhou played a crucial role in laying the groundwork for the dynasty’s ascent. A respected leader known for his wisdom and virtue, he strengthened alliances with neighboring tribes and promoted administrative reforms that would later become the foundation of Zhou governance. However, it was his son, King Wu, who ultimately led the military campaign that overthrew the Shang. The decisive battle took place at Muye around 1046 BCE, where the Zhou army, though numerically inferior, defeated the Shang forces due to superior strategy and the defection of many Shang soldiers who had grown discontented with their rulers.
Following their victory, the Zhou established a new political order centered around the Mandate of Heaven. This doctrine asserted that the right to rule was granted by divine authority, but it was not absolute—rulers had to govern justly and maintain moral integrity to retain legitimacy. If they failed, they could be overthrown, as had been the case with the Shang. This belief not only justified the Zhou conquest but also set a precedent for the dynastic cycle in China.

In 1992 Sripad Jagannatha Das was asked if he would do an exclusive interview with the Maharishi in Switzerland. The author readily agreed as the reclusive spiritual master almost never met the press and was embarking on an ambitious mass meditation program to purify vast areas of the United States. After a great deal of negotiation, the two finally got together on Christmas Eve and had a prolonged, stirring conversation that is documented here. In addition, the Maharishi was joined by the late world-class magician Doug Henning. Put together with a chronological, historical narration by Das, here is your chance to go one on one with one of the greatest spiritual minds of our time.

Here too is the story of The Beatles circa 1968, as they trekked to a remote, mysterious, and beautiful part of India known as Rishikesh or the valley of the saints. For thousands of years, this riverside valley has been a magnet for advanced yogis, mystics, and seekers of truth. In 1968, it was the absolute zenith of all of this and the pop world as well. It was here the Beatles wrote dozens of now-iconic songs while meditating at the feet of the lauded spiritual master. Along with many of the world's most celebrated people, the group once again led the way as innovators in not only music but innate spirituality as well.
Fifty years later, we remember the group's bold trek and artistic accomplishment in this inspirational audio biography from Beatles author and historian Geoffrey Giuliano. The Maharishi, the Beatles, and friends tell their own stories in this one-of-a-kind celebration of a magical time gone by.

Finally, here are several enlightening lectures by Maharishi all of which are surcharged with the sublime transcendental knowledge with are the masters perpetual stock in trade.
