McIntyre skillfully intertwines narrative and social commentary to illuminate the intricate dynamics of urban ward politics and the lives of those who inhabit the hospital wards. With its vivid, character-driven storytelling and a keen observational style, McIntyre presents a gripping portrayal of the struggles faced by patients and medical practitioners alike amid bureaucratic indifference. Set against the backdrop of an unnamed, yet universally resonant, urban environment, the book deftly explores themes of social justice, healthcare challenges, and the human spirit's resilience amid adversity. John T. McIntyre's background as a healthcare professional and his keen interest in social issues have profoundly influenced his writing. His lived experiences within the complex ecosystem of urban healthcare provide authenticity to the characters and narratives within the book. McIntyre'Äôs work is situated within a broader tradition of social realism, echoing the voices of those often marginalized in public discourse, thereby enriching our understanding of systemic healthcare challenges. Readers interested in a compelling blend of fiction and social critique will find "The Ragged Edge" both enlightening and thought-provoking. McIntyre invites readers to grapple with the stark realities of ward life, making this book a crucial read for anyone passionate about social reform, empathy in healthcare, and the intricate political landscape that shapes our lives.

This book consists of 4 titles, which are the following:
History of Bulgaria - The history of Bulgaria is rich and complex, tracing its roots from the earliest settlements in the region to its emergence as a modern nation-state. The story of the Bulgarian people is intertwined with their origins, showcasing a diverse tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions that have evolved over millennia.
History of Hungary - The history of ancient Hungary begins well before the arrival of the Hungarians themselves, tracing back to the Iron Age and the early cultural developments in the Carpathian Basin. Around 800 BC, the Iron Age began to shape this region, with the emergence of "Thraco-Cimmerian" artifact types that suggested a significant overlap between the pre-Scythian cultures (Novocherkassk culture) and the pre-Celtic Hallstatt culture. This cultural intermingling marked the beginning of a complex interplay between indigenous peoples and incoming groups.
History of Romania - The earliest evidence of human habitation in what is now Romania dates back to prehistoric times, but one of the first recorded mentions comes from the writings of the ancient Greek historian Herodotus. In his work Histories, Book IV, written around 440 BC, Herodotus described the Getae, a Thracian tribe residing in the region that would later become Romania. According to Herodotus, the Getae were defeated by Persian Emperor Darius the Great during his military campaign against the Scythians.
History of Ukraine - The early history of the territory now known as Ukraine is marked by a series of ancient cultures and civilizations that shaped the region's development before and during the Dark Ages. The area was initially inhabited by the Dacians, a group known for their connections to the wider Thracian culture, alongside various nomadic tribes such as the Cimmerians, Scythians, and Sarmatians.

A swift, sudden attack from the ocean, putting soldiers ashore on a hostile coast at some point weakly defended by the enemy, has been a powerful tactical and strategic tool since the late Bronze Age. Utilized by the Sea Peoples against New Kingdom Egypt and the Greek city-states in their internecine wars, amphibious warfare combined high mobility with a strong chance of complete surprise.
The technique continued in use through such periods as the early Medieval era, when Viking armies numbering up to 10,000 men struck suddenly and devastatingly from the sea using their highly seaworthy longships or “dragonships” (drekkar). At around the same time, the Normans carried out amphibious landings of invasion forces, including mounted men, in Muslim-occupied Sicily (1061) and Saxon England (1066).
As navies grew larger and the Spanish clashed with the Ottomans in the Mediterranean during the Renaissance, some military forces introduced specialized marines for the first time. These men, trained specially for landings carried out using ships’ boats, formed a part of many European navies from the 16th century onward.
World War I was the first truly industrial war, and it created a paradigm which reached its zenith with World War II and towards which virtually all equipment, innovation and training were dedicated throughout the Cold War and the remainder of the 20th century. To this day, modern warfare remains synonymous with tanks and mass infantry battles, although a confrontation of this nature has not occurred (except briefly during Operation Desert Storm) since World War II. 	World War II witnessed a sudden explosion in the scope and metamorphosis in the methods of amphibious warfare. With battlefields covering significant portions of the planetary surface, combined with the availability of the modern era’s powerful technology and vehicles, the mighty conflict witnessed unprecedented tactical and strategic amphibious operations.

Schools do amazing work to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds. But this book will enable them to do more. Disadvantage comes in many forms, but cultural poverty, where some students have relative knowledge gaps compared with their more affluent peers, can be addressed successfully by schools. The Working Classroom explores how working-class students are disadvantaged by a flawed system and what schools can do to close the gap.
Written by two experienced authors with a deep understanding of the challenges that poverty and low aspiration can bring, and a passion for social justice, The Working Classroom examines how and why we must seek systemic changes. The book focuses on actions within the control of teachers and school leaders which will ensure that we create a socially just education system - one that builds on the rich heritage of the working-class, rather than seeing their background as a weakness. It offers practical ways for students and families to build on the best of working-class culture, whilst also empowering teachers, students and parents to change the system.
The Working Classroom provides teachers with useful methods to improve the cultural capital of students from disadvantaged backgrounds that can be easily replicated and implemented in their own setting. Backed up by practical case studies that have a proven impact in schools with high levels of deprivation, this book will enable teachers to audit their current provision and encourage them to adopt new systems and practices so that they, and the wider school, will have a greater impact on the lives of working-class students and their families.
Suitable for both teachers and leaders in a secondary school or sixth form college setting who seek to support social change in education and anyone in the corporate or non-education world who wants to practice effective altruism or philanthropy.
