Sinopse

Henry James’s tragicomic masterpiece pits a headstrong Mississippi lawyer against his feminist cousin in a no-holds-barred fight for the heart of an impressionable young suffragette When Basil Ransom, a headstrong Mississippi lawyer, comes to Boston to call on his wealthy activist cousin, Olive, an epic battle of wills ensues. Basil is a conservative of the most ardent type while Cousin Olive is steadfast in her radicalism. Perhaps for a laugh, perhaps for a story to tell his lawyer friends back in Mississippi, Basil accompanies Olive to a women’s emancipation rally, whereupon he falls irrevocably in love with a young suffragette, Miss Verena Tarrant, and sets about trying to rewrite her beliefs. The problem is that Olive has been grooming Miss Tarrant as her protégé. Will Basil reform the lovely young activist orator, or will Olive win the young woman’s heart and mind?   Often proclaimed James’s funniest novel and regarded as his most successful political work, The Bostonians deals with love and friendship in the awkward landscape of shifting social roles, feminism in post–Civil War America, and a woman’s place in this brave new world. Funny, astute, and merciless, The Bostonians is one of James’s most successful portrayals of a world teetering between old values and the relentless march of social progress.   This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

And that’s what Todd Jones is about to learn when he allows the enigmatic Caterina Kadlec to enter his office. He’s hoping that her wealthy client, and the big fat commission he’ll earn, will be the answer to his prayers. Unfortunately, Caterina has other plans and those plans include grand larceny. As for the murder, well, sometimes things don’t go as planned, do they? Nope, they sure don’t. And that’s what Todd is also about to learn and learn the hard way. No matter, Todd always has plans of his own and has no qualms about implementing them. Because when it comes to ethics and morality, it’s all a gray area as far as Todd is concerned. To complicate matters, his girlfriend has left him. Again. And his live-in mother, who already insists on keeping an annoying pet pig named Mr. Squeals, has invited a homeless Russian woman to take up residence, thus kicking him out of his home office. "It Started with a Finger Up My A*se" is not your typical prostate cancer memoir — it’s a brutally honest, unexpectedly funny, and a deeply human journey through a diagnosis millions of men face but few talk about.
You will get more solace from this prize-worthy, self-proclaimed masterpiece than any other book on the subject or your money back. (I didn’t mean that; I’m just making a point.)
I was diagnosed in 2024, and what followed was equal parts terrifying, ridiculous, painful, and oddly enlightening. This audiobook is filled with things you won’t hear in polite conversation, but probably should — from awkward intrusive exams and midnight fears, to German penis pumps and injections in a place they do not belong. Not forgetting conversations about Harry Potter, Ted lasso and porn. I know, strange.
You will laugh, maybe cry, and most definitely clench. It will also help you tackle those fears, especially in the dark moments when you feel very alone, of which there may be many. But more than that, you'll find comfort, connection, and the raw truths no brochure will tell you.
It’s my hope that the raw and unfiltered truths will give you answers to the questions you didn’t know you needed to ask.
So, what do you do when confronted with cancer? You look it square in the face and laugh at it because sometimes that’s all you can do. This evil illness has so much power over us, and I think it’s time we took some of it back.
It Started with a Finger Up My A*se (which it did) is a book for everybody because that’s precisely who prostate cancer affects.
Listen, laugh and learn. Then pass what you know on to the next man, because unfortunately there will always be a next man.

    The Wonderful Visit

When an angel accidentally falls to Earth — quite literally — Victorian England isn’t ready for him.
In The Wonderful Visit, H. G. Wells blends gentle comedy, quiet wonder, and sharp social insight in this whimsical tale of the extraordinary disrupting the everyday. When a vicar mistakes a celestial visitor for a rare bird and wounds him, he soon discovers the “strange bird” is, in fact, an angel — bewildered, radiant, and suddenly subject to the odd rules of human life.
As the vicar tends to his unexpected guest, the angel must confront earthly aches, polite society, manners, gossip, and the peculiar limitations of mortals. What follows is a heart-touching and humorous exploration of innocence, belief, and the fragile barrier between the divine and the ordinary.
With charm and subtle satire, Wells invites us to consider how humanity might greet the miraculous — with curiosity, confusion, and perhaps a touch of grace.
A tender, thoughtful fantasy told with wit and warmth.
