Summary

Thanksgiving Stories is a vivid anthology that captures the spirit of gratitude and togetherness, woven through an eclectic mix of literary styles and narratives. From heartwarming tales of familial bonds to reflective stories on the meaning of giving thanks, this collection gathers gems of literature spanning the sentimental, the whimsical, and the philosophical. The anthology's remarkable depth is reflected in standout pieces that echo with timeless resonance, painting a canvas of human emotion and shared experience. The anthology unites a wealth of literary voices, including luminaries like Harriet Beecher Stowe and Louisa May Alcott, alongside lesser-known yet equally compelling writers. John Gilligan is no altar boy, by his own admission.

One of Ireland's most infamous criminals and drug lords, and widely believed in the court of public opinion to have ordered the cold-blooded murder of crime reporter Veronica Guerin, he remains a defiant figure.

In this remarkable book—the first of its kind—journalist Jason O'Toole distills hours of sensational face-to-face, no-holds-barred interviews with the feared criminal into a fast-paced and jaw-dropping account of the Irish gangland scene. And Gilligan doesn't mince his words. ‘I didn't believe in God, but I know I'm going to hell.'

Starting out as a petty thief in Dublin, Gilligan rose to the status of crime lord earning £10 million from drugs within his first two years. He mixed with ‘the General' Martin Cahill, with Gerry ‘The Monk' Hutch and with John Traynor. He was deeply involved with money laundering, miraculously survived an assassination attempt, and it is said he has millions of euro stashed away at a secret location, for future use.

O'Toole demands answers from Gilligan for all the hard questions; some of his responses will make readers shiver. Gilligan knew that laying all his cards on the table could mean signing his own arrest warrant... or worse. But he has done it here. And with a cast of all the country's deadliest underworld figures, this exposé is nothing short of explosive.

Frederick Albert Cook (June 10, 1865 - August 5, 1940) was an American explorer and physician noted for his claims of achieving the first summit of Mount McKinley, in September 1906, and having reached the North Pole on April 21, 1908, which would have been a year before Robert Peary. Both claims have been largely discredited. Later, Dr. Cook was a founding member of the Arctic Club and Explorers Club.
Robert Edwin Peary, Sr. (May 6, 1856 - February 20, 1920) was an American explorer who claimed to have led the first expedition, on April 6, 1909, to reach the geographic North Pole.
Peary's claim was widely accepted for most of the 20th century, rather than the competing claim by Frederick Cook who said he got there a year earlier. More recently, historians generally believe Cook did not reach the pole, and there are grave doubts that Peary did, though he may have been as close as five miles.
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (February 1874 - January 5, 1922) was an Anglo-Irish polar explorer and one of the principal figures of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.
In January 1909 - as leader of the Nimrod Expedition - he and three companions made a southern march which established a record-farthest south latitude at 88 degrees 23' S - some 97 geographical from the South Pole - the closest convergence in exploration history up to that time. For this achievement, Shackleton was knighted by King Edward VII on his return home.
