Sinopse

'Tales of Vampires & Werewolves' is a meticulously curated anthology that emerges as a crucial intersection for the exploration of gothic horror and supernatural fiction. Spanning across centuries and continents, the collection showcases a rich tableau of stylistic diversity from macabre historical narratives to eerie folkloristic tales. These pieces collectively trace the evolution of vampiric and lycanthropic lore within the literary panorama, gracefully weaving the palpable tension and dark ambiance that define the genres. The anthology's standout feature is its ability to encapsulate the essence of fear and intrigue through multiple lenses, embracing a spectrum from the primal terror of the unknown to the sophisticated dread of the morally ambiguous. The anthology benefits immensely from the profound backgrounds of its eclectic mix of authors, each contributing uniquely to the overarching theme of supernatural horror. From the Gothic romanticism of Polidori to the adventurous exoticism of Burton, and the psychological horrors penned by Le Fanu, every story is steeped in cultural and historical contexts that enrich the narrative depths. The collection does more than entertain; it serves as a mirror reflecting the societal anxieties and ethical questions of the eras represented, offering a comprehensive look at the literary movements that shaped the genres of horror and supernatural fiction. This anthology is an indispensable resource for those who wish to immerse themselves in the depths of gothic horror and supernatural folklore. It invites readers to traverse eerie landscapes and dark, twisted pathways through time and mythology. 'Tales of Vampires & Werewolves' not only educates but also entertains, providing a broad spectrum of insights and dialogues crafted by pioneering voices in literature. It is essential reading for anyone keen to explore the thematic complexity and artistic breadth of horror through a collection that both honors and transcends its genre boundaries.

In this sequel to The Night Inside, a vampire couple’s relationship is tested by the modern world as a mysterious stranger hunts them down. With a dark embrace from five-hundred-year-old vampire Dimitri Rozokov, Ardeth Alexander left behind her mortal life in Toronto. Now they are attempting to forge a new life in Banff, Alberta.—and They share an unspoken agreement not to feed on humans and hunt wild animals off the beaten paths of the national park instead. However, their new reality is far from easy, and elk blood can never fully satisfy their hunger. Angry and unhappy, Ardeth longs for the life she left behind and returns to Toronto. But the machinations of a century-old Japanese vampire soon reunite the couple. Once a feudal lord, now a yakuza boss, Sademori Fujiwara shares his extraordinary life story. It is a tale that can answer the questions of love, mortality, and morality threatening to tear Ardeth and Dimitri apart for good. But the price for those answers is dangerously high . . . “Baker writes about the vampires next door . . . they bicker over petty, everyday things. They are jealous when a partner flirts with someone. They worry about paying the rent . . . ‘They’re Canadian,’ she says.” —The Vancouver Sun “Baker evokes the various figures from Japanese culture familiar in the West—yakuza, samurai and medieval court ladies and their pillow books—but she goes beyond clichés and invests these characters with a solidity and poignancy that contrast sharply with the simpler Canadian horror of The Night Inside. This is a more contemplative offering.” —Paragraph

One of HP Lovecrafts earliest works, "The Shunned House", first published in Weird Tales in the October of 1937, is a short novellette about a mysterious, and apparently cursed house. The Shunned House on Benefit Street has long captivated the attention of the narrator and his uncle Elihu Whipple, but they are unprepared for the full scale of the horror they are to experience when they attempt to stay the night in it's benighted basement to finally unearth it's mysterious secrets. Considered one of Lovecrafts best short stories, it is beleived to have been his first individually published book: with 250 copies made by Recluse Press in 1928.
    Narrated by Michael Ward.

I’m pregnant. Yep, you heard that right. Pregnant. And while I’m trying really hard not to freak out about that, Hollow Cove is busy preparing for its Headless Horseman reenactment—a big deal around here, apparently. But just as the town is gearing up for spooky fun, events take a real-life terrifying twist. A body is discovered, and carved into it are the words: “Give it back.”
Before I can even fully process the fact that I’ve got a tiny, magic-wielding bun in the oven, more bodies start showing up—the kind with creepy messages and a very dead vibe. Suddenly, Hollow Cove feels less like home and more like the set of a horror flick.
My aunts, badass witches that they are, seem to know more than they’re letting on, and the pressure’s on to figure out who—or what—is behind the murders before the whole town goes into full-on panic mode. Oh, and did I mention my powers are acting up at the worst possible times? Perfect timing, as always.
It’s a race against the clock to stop the killer, keep my baby safe, and maybe, just maybe, survive long enough to figure out how the hell I’m supposed to be a mom. Because in Hollow Cove, the monsters don’t wait—and neither does murder.
