Summary

In "The Art of Aubrey Beardsley," Arthur Symons offers a penetrating exploration of Beardsley's groundbreaking contribution to fin-de-siècle aesthetics and the decadent movement. Through a richly textured prose that blends keen observation and lyrical insight, Symons examines Beardsley's oeuvre, emphasizing his innovative use of stark contrasts and intricate line work. The text is not merely an art critique; it delicately juxtaposes Beardsley's sensual themes with the prevailing cultural anxieties of the late 19th century, capturing the essence of an era steeped in both beauty and turmoil. Arthur Symons, a poet and critic known for his involvement in the symbolist movement, emerged as a crucial figure in the late Victorian literary landscape. His deep engagement with contemporary art and literature inspired him to produce this intricate analysis of Beardsley, whose works reflected Symons' own fascination with aestheticism. Symons' understanding of the emotional and psychological undercurrents in art likely stemmed from his own experiences as a writer navigating the complexities of modernity. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of art and literature, as well as those seeking to understand the rich tapestry of turn-of-the-century artistic expression. Symons not only illuminates Beardsley's artistry but also invites readers to reflect on how artistic innovations can mirror and challenge societal values.

This text deals fundamentally with design and architecture: the route of spatial recognition, which is the least known —or worked on— within the approaches of the autism spectrum given its difficulty in being synthesized in a paradigm or normative set. The objective is to create a framework to approach the design of environments and buildings, in order to facilitate spatial development in everyday life and, especially, in learning situations.
The spatial route, which is the project, creates:
    - A set of spatial coordinates that liberates the user from the anguish of not recognizing, of not understanding the space in which he is developing. And that offer him the possibility of finding the way, directing him to where he needs or wants to go.
    - Structure of the exterior and interior, with their corresponding activities placed in a comprenssible way through concepts of organization: functional and sensorial sequence of events. And creation of spaces for group and individual tasks, paying special attention to places of transition and recovery between opposite or different activities, both physical and emotional.
    - The aspects that are developed in terms of recommendations are synthesized in a construct that brings together the aspects of general, functional, formal and sensory organization of plans, elevations and details. Achieving with these “person-space” adjustments a higher quality of personal life and of its affective and learning environment.
    - Design components that in the case of autism should be considered in order to seek with the project greater facility of understanding, use and space-emotional development of people from childhood to adult life.

Journeying across the continents, writer Matt Collins and photographer Roo Lewis tie together both the historical context and modern-day applications of some of the world's most fascinating and iconic trees. They explore the heritage of woodlands from around the world and meet those whose lives are inexplicably bound to them.
The book is divided into 10 main chapters, each of which explores a tree from a particular genus – Pine, Juniper, Oak, Hornbeam, Cherry, Beech, Birch, Chestnut, Douglas-fir and Poplar. Each chapter provides the reader with a short introduction to the tree, followed by a journalistic account of its relevance to modern day-life (from gin making on Isle of Islay to a truffle farm in Spain), and concludes with an account of the tree in its native forest (from hornbeams in the Ironwoods of Ontario to firs on Vancouver Island).
