Edward Whymper
Edward Whymper (1840-1911) was an English mountaineer, illustrator and explorer born in London. Sent to the Alps to make engravings, he became a climber, made the first ascent of the Matterhorn, and later climbed in Greenland and the Andes. His works include Scrambles Amongst the Alps and Travels Amongst the Great Andes.
