Summary

Tiger Facts explores the captivating life of tigers, bridging their biological existence with their profound impact on human societies. Delving into the realms of biology, ecology, and cultural anthropology, the book illuminates the tiger's evolutionary journey, physical prowess, and diverse habitats across Asia. Understanding these apex predators is critical, given that a tiger's roar can be heard from up to two miles away and their stripes are as unique as human fingerprints.

The book unfolds in three parts, beginning with the tiger's biological profile, including hunting techniques and life cycle. It then examines the tiger's ecological role and the challenges of habitat loss, before exploring the tiger's cultural significance in mythology, art, and conservation efforts. Tiger Facts highlights established scientific research, field studies, and expert interviews to present a holistic view. It connects to ecology, wildlife management, conservation biology, cultural anthropology, and environmental ethics, revealing how the tiger's fate is inextricably linked to human actions, thereby emphasizing the critical responsibility of conservation.

Gerald Diffey has spent four decades immersed in the world of food, wine and hospitality, from early days waiting tables in old English hotels to establishing two of the best places in the world to drink and eat: the award-winning Gerald’s Bar in North Carlton– Heston Blumenthal described it as ‘a proper, proper old-fashioned sort of bar’– and Gerald’s Bar in San Sebastian.
Beggars Belief is a collection of funny, poignant, insightful and just plain ludicrous stories from Gerald’s life in kitchens and behind bars: his formative years in the UK, memories of food and family; tales and tips from forty years of service; journeys and meals, people and places, from lunch on the side of a volcano in Sicily to dinner on a beach in East Timor; stories and recipes and drinks suggestions from North Carlton and San Sebastian; vignettes, slices of life, observations.
‘Romance,’ writes Gerald in the introduction. ‘That’s what I sell. Sensual pleasures. Sights, sounds, smells, touch, taste. Cyrano de Bergerac said: “I have tried to live my whole life with panache.” If I said that, I’d sound like a twat. But you get the drift. I’m off to bone some quails.’

    THE BEATLES
THE ULTIMATE TRIVIA AND CURIOUS FACTS COLLECTION

    CREATED BY TRIVIA HUB

The Beatles were a highly influential English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The core lineup consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Their music, rooted in skiffle and 1950s rock 'n' roll, evolved to include elements of classical music, traditional pop, folk, Indian music, psychedelia, and hard rock. They revolutionized the music industry with their innovative recording, songwriting, and artistic presentation. "Beatlemania" marked the beginning of their massive popularity. The band's final studio album, Abbey Road, was released in 1969, with their last performance together in the studio in August of that year. Despite their break-up in 1970, the Beatles' music continues to have a significant impact.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

The Beatles' original name was The Quarrymen, a reference to their school song. The group was formed by John Lennon in 1956 with friends from Quarry Bank High School.

George Harrison was initially considered too young to join The Quarrymen. However, after persistent requests and a performance of "Raunchy" on a bus, he was enlisted as the lead guitarist.

The Beatles were contracted for a 3 ½-month residency in Hamburg, Germany, where the red light district was in full swing. The band's historian Mark Lewisohn noted that the flashing neon lights and scantily clad women were prominent in the area where they played.

Brian Epstein, a local record store owner and music columnist, discovered the Beatles at the Cavern Club. He was immediately impressed by their fresh sound and "star quality".

Primarily set in North-West England, the accounts focus on Randall's childhood and young adulthood. The time period spans from the late 1950s to the early 2000s, providing a backdrop of societal changes and evolving perspectives on paranormal phenomena. The atmosphere moves between the mundane reality of everyday life and inexplicable occurrences, creating a stark contrast that mirrors the dissonance between Randall's experiences and a consensus worldview.

His journey also explores the psychological impact of trauma around the retrieval of repressed memories. A reflection on the process of spiritual awakening, where paranormal experiences lead to a deeper understanding of the self. It challenges readers to smile whilst considering a broader perspective that invites introspection and self-discovery.

Fulfilling a lifetime dream of finding a house by the sea, Pearl Lowe now brings her laid-back decorating style to coastal living with Faded Glamour by the Sea.
Pearl Lowe's gloriously decadent yet perfectly lived-in decorating style was featured in her bestselling interiors book Faded Glamour. Now Pearl is taking us to the coast, and in Faded Glamour by the Sea we get the first glimpse of her new home – a beautiful renovation project that she and her husband, musician Danny Goffey, have created in East Sussex. Built in the 1940s for an artist whose shell sculptures are still dotted round the garden, the house and adjacent cabins have been lovingly restored by Pearl. The house may have been a life-long dream for the couple, who have always loved the solace of water, but it has only been just over a year in the making, thanks to the inspiration Pearl has drawn from many friends who live in the area and also further afield. And so she takes us on a tour of their seaside homes. A pair of antique dealers whose love of all things French inspired them to set up their own brocante in Kent; an artist with a love of beach huts; an author who swapped London life for a clifftop house with his own writer's hut. Add to this the Malibu beachfront home of stylist Rachel Ashwell, the hippy-chic style of supermodel Helena Christensen's waterside retreat and the 'punk noir Victorian' vibe of the hotel created by friends from rock band The Libertines. In Faded Glamour by the Sea Pearl visits these properties, and as the owners tell their stories she explains how she found inspiration for this new chapter in her life.
