Summary

"Imagination Driven" presents a groundbreaking perspective on the integration of creative thinking and practical decision-making, backed by cutting-edge cognitive neuroscience research. The book challenges the traditional notion that imagination and practical reasoning are separate processes, revealing how these mental functions actually work together through interconnected neural networks to enhance problem-solving capabilities and innovation.

Through a well-structured three-part approach, the book first establishes the scientific foundation of imagination's role in decision-making, drawing from studies at prestigious institutions like the Stanford Imagination Project and MIT Creative Cognition Lab. It then introduces the "Practical Imagination Protocol," a systematic framework that combines creative and analytical thinking for everyday problem-solving. The final section provides concrete methodologies for developing sustainable imagination-driven habits that can be applied in both personal and professional contexts.

What sets this book apart is its comprehensive synthesis of cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and organizational behavior, making complex concepts accessible through practical examples and structured exercises. Rather than treating imagination as merely a tool for artistic expression, it demonstrates how imaginative thinking can be systematically applied to enhance business strategy, scientific discovery, and personal development. The book's evidence-based approach, combining theoretical insights with practical applications, makes it an invaluable resource for professionals seeking to improve their problem-solving capabilities and leaders aiming to foster innovation in their organizations.

    What does the transformation to a visitor-centered approach do for a museum? How are museums made relevant to a broad range of visitors of varying ages, identities, and social classes? Does appealing to a larger audience force museums to “dumb down” their work? What internal changes are required? Based on a multi-year, Kress Foundation–sponsored study of ten innovative American and European collections based museums recognized by their peers to be visitor centered, Peter Samis and Mimi Michaelson answer these key questions for the field. The book:
    • describes key institutions that have opened the doors to a wider range of visitors;
    • addresses the internal struggles to reorganize and democratize these institutions;
    • uses case studies, interviews of key personnel, Key Takeaways, and additional resources to help museum professionals implement a visitor-centered approach in collections-based institutions.

    From bestselling author and Jungian psychoanalyst Dr. James Hollis comes a new collection of essays exploring life’s challenges and celebrating evolving questions on life’s mysterious journey.In a world seemingly set up for distraction, life can often feel like it’s dividing you not only from others but also from yourself. Yet even within the cacophony of life, deep down you can intuit your own soul, that part of you that knows you better than you know yourself, and that offers direction and moments of solace, even amid uncertainty.This disconnect from your inner source of guidance leads to self-doubt, but in Living with Borrowed Dust, Hollis provides a reminder that you carry within what you’re so anxiously looking for from a crazed world. “Behind the noise and beneath the surface, something in the soul of each of us cries out,” he says. “While we may be distracted from this summons, the soul keeps asking that we pay attention.” These summonses come to us through symptoms, dreams, and restless nights. Gaining insight into these inner callings, the meaning within our challenges, and the courage it takes to move through our journey can help us feel better connected through difficult times. Here, Hollis reveals tools you can utilize to engage in this conversation with the soul.In this collection of essays, readers are guided to reflect deeply on questions that explore and celebrate life's challenges in our evolving world, including how happiness is attained, how to approach your dreams, the divided soul of America, the fear and fascination with death, and the conflict between good and evil. With each new insight, Hollis aims to steer you toward an individual, self-determining path, zeroing in on the need for personal accountability and decisive growth. Using analytic psychology as a vehicle for the recovery of a spiritual life in a secular age, you’ll find inspiration for reconnecting with deep wisdom, bringing renewed purpose and dignity to this mysterious journey called life.

    CEASEFIRE! - A Brutal Journey...

    Ceasefire is a true story. It is about me and my familys journeys through wars and other conflcts over three generations, and the brutal consequences of such a journey, particularly for me.
    During my PhD research in the 1980s, as an academic I travelled all over the world, and revealed the murderous realities of the covert Reagan-era, US foreign policy in numerous war zones, particulary in the Phillipines and Central America. The covert strategy became known as Low Intensity Conflict ( LIC).
    But much later my political opponents in the media, branded me a 'terrorist' sympathiser and supporter of 'Islamic terrorism' in the southern Philippines. The result? My life was left in tatters - privately, professionally.and psychologially.
    Over time, I tried to come to terms with my constant battle against the suicidal 'Black Dog' of depression. I decided to write a book about my reseach with the communist New People's Army and the Muslim guerrilas in the Philippines. It was way of combating the smear campaign that destrored my life.
    Ultimately, I concluded like millions of other people, I am merely a part of a brutal 'firing order' phenomenon, a psychological condition of a global politcal culture that continually infects and shapes our following generations. I am neither alone nor my condition uninfluenced. I am just another link in a long chain of human events perpetrating both conflict among peoples and the resulting deadly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that affects such participants. With a greater understanding of my condition, I finally attemped to come to peace with the Black Dog, and called for a 'Ceasefire'!
    But what ultimately happened?. It all played out in France. I survived but my brother and daughter didnt. I am still to find any peace. The Black Dog takes no prisoners!

    On the Cannibals

    'I am not sorry we note the barbarous horror of cannibalism, but grieved that, prying so narrowly into their faults, we are so blinded in ours.'

    First translated into English in 1603, 'On the Cannibals' is an essay reflecting on a remarkable trip to Brazil which Michel de Montaigne undertook at the end of the sixteenth century.

    A study into the customs and practices of indigenous peoples in the Americas, Montaigne delves into the concept of 'civilisation', contrasting the behaviour of so-called 'barbarians' with Western society. He challenges the idea that European values are superior, understanding the practices of the Tupinambá people and arguing that the horrors inflicted by the soldiers of Portugal on their enemies at the time are – in many ways – far worse. It remains a persuasive and compelling argument for cultural relativism. This audiobook edition is expertly narrated by Malk Williams.
    Michael de Montaigne (1533 – 1592) was a French philosopher and writer, and a significant figure in the French Renaissance. He is widely known for popularising the essay, amalgamating anecdotes with memoir and intellect. He has been a huge influence on several Western writers, including William Shakespeare.
