Summary

They were raised to be enemies. Kieran, a battle-worn fighter of Tribe A, and Mira, the fierce daughter of Tribe B, should never have shared more than the clash of steel. But when soldiers attack, the two are forced into an uneasy alliance against a threat greater than either tribe.

Nights by the fire chip away at years of hate. Each trial crossing wild rivers, fighting off ambushes, enduring hunger pulls them closer. Distrust hardens into respect, and respect slips into something far more dangerous: desire. In the wilderness, stripped of rules and tradition, Kieran and Mira find passion that shouldn’t exist, yet refuses to be denied.

But the forest won’t protect them forever. If their people discover the truth, love could turn into a death sentence. Bound by loyalty yet drawn toward longing, they stand on the edge of a choice that could change everything.

Can a bond forged in fire outlast the weight of war?

The Adventurer is a Barbara Cartland novel like no other. Set before, during and after World War One, this is not the story of a King, a Lord or a dashing battlefield hero: Frank Swinton is quite the opposite. He is an adventurer: a man determined to raise himself above the drudgery of a

nine-to-five job. Tall, dark and attractive, if not exactly handsome, he uses his charms to swindle lonely ladies out of their money. That is until he’s trapped by his own weakness and greed in a loveless marriage–and hates himself as much as his obsessive and embittered bride. Eventually he manages to unshackle himself, flee overseas and find the courage to fight for his country–but will he ever escape and rediscover his long-lost soul and the love his greed allowed him to leave behind? All is told in this moving story about a man’s search for redemption and that in the end, love is enough.
