Summary

In "London to Ladysmith via Pretoria & Ian Hamilton's March," Winston Churchill presents a gripping narrative that chronicles his experiences as a war correspondent during the Second Boer War. Blending meticulous observation with vivid prose, Churchill captures the tumultuous events of the conflict, showcasing not only the challenges faced by British troops but also the resilience of the human spirit under fire. His dual accounts'Äîcharting the harrowing march through treacherous terrain and the strategic maneuvers of the British forces'Äîreflect a keen engagement with military history and a deep understanding of the socio-political landscape of early 20th-century Britain. Winston Churchill, a key figure in British history as both a soldier and statesman, found himself propelled into the maelstrom of war at a young age. His military experience and fervent interest in politics fueled his ambition to document the realities of warfare. Through this work, Churchill also sought to galvanize public support for the British military, revealing his early talent for rhetoric and historical analysis that would later shape his leadership role during World War II. This book is highly recommended for readers interested in military history, British imperialism, or Churchill's evolution as a writer and leader. The narrative not only provides an exhilarating account of the Boer War but also serves as a testament to Churchill's skill in elevating personal experience into a broader commentary on resilience and nationhood.

There's a lot going on, all the time. It may feel overwhelming. Don't worry. It will end. As if that would help!

Eli Grober's biting, Swiftian prose spares no one—not the megalomaniacal billionaire fleeing Earth for a better life on unlivable Mars, not an extremely online family living completely off-grid, not even a fossil-fuel lobbyist insisting we all stop using straws. (Eli does spare a kind thought for the supremely intelligent listeners with the good sense to buy this book.) Maybe, just maybe, descending through the inferno of our environmental, economic, and political landscape will help us find real solutions to the hypocrisy and dysfunction that surrounds us. But probably not.

What’s the actual secret to happiness? Great memories! Meik Wiking—happiness researcher and New York Times bestselling author of The Little Book of Hygge and The Little Book of Lykke—shows us how to create memories that make life sweet in this charming audiobook.

Do you remember your first kiss? The day you graduated? Your favorite vacation? Or the best meal you ever had?
Memories are the cornerstones of our identity, shaping who we are, how we act, and how we feel. In his work as a happiness researcher, Meik Wiking has learned that people are happier if they hold a positive, nostalgic view of the past. But how do we make and keep the memories that bring us lasting joy?
The Art of Making Memories examines how mental images are made, stored, and recalled in our brains, as well as the “art of letting go”—why we tend to forget certain moments to make room for deeper, more meaningful ones. Meik uses data, interviews, global surveys, and real-life experiments to explain the nuances of nostalgia and the different ways we form memories around our experiences and recall them—revealing the power that a “first time” has on our recollections, and why a piece of music, a smell, or a taste can unexpectedly conjure a moment from the past. Ultimately, Meik shows how we each can create warm memories that will stay with us for years.
Combining his signature charm with Scandinavian forthrightness, and featuring “Happy Memory Tips,” The Art of Making Memories is an inspiration meditation and practical guide filled with ideas to help us make the memories that will bring us joy throughout our lives.

"What Rama says once he carries out; there is no looking back.” Rama to Kaikeyi “Only the timid and the weak leave things to destiny but the strong never bank on destiny or luck.” Lakshmana to Rama

The epic poem, by Maharishi Valmiki Muni, narrates the life of Lord Rama, a legendary prince of Ayodhya city in the kingdom of Kosala. The epic follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest urged by his father King Dasharatha, on the request of Rama's stepmother Kaikeyi. He traveled across forests in the Indian subcontinent with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. Rama endured the kidnapping of Sita by Ravana – the demon king of Lanka, which resulted in a great war; and Rama's eventual return to Ayodhya to be crowned king amidst jubilation and celebration. The Ramayana is one of the ancient epics in world literature consisting of nearly 24,000 verses. It is considered to be the Adi-kavya (first poem) depicting the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal father, ideal servant, ideal brother, ideal husband and ideal king. The Ramayana was an important influence on later Sanskrit poetry and Vedic life and culture. There are many versions of Ramayana in Indian languages, besides Buddhist, Sikh, and Jain adaptations. There are also Cambodian (Reamker), Indonesian, Filipino, Thai (Ramakien), Lao, Burmese and Malay versions of the iconic tale.
