Summary

In the thrilling series Alice and the Secret Agent: Secrets of the Past, the lines between love, betrayal, and vengeance blur as two families, entangled in a web of secrets and dark legacies, face the consequences of a long-standing feud. Alice Delos Santos, a woman of intelligence and grace, finds herself drawn into a world she never knew existed when her path crosses with Gerald Verdugo, a mysterious secret agent with a shadowy past.

Unbeknownst to Alice, her family’s wealth and success have roots in a bitter rivalry with Gerald’s family, a feud that dates back generations. As the couple delves deeper into their shared history, they uncover shocking revelations about their ancestors—illegal dealings, hidden betrayals, and a devastating conspiracy that threatens to tear their world apart. As old wounds are reopened, Alice and Gerald must navigate the dangerous waters of family loyalty, trust, and the pursuit of power.

With every chapter, the mystery unravels further, leading to an explosive discovery about the ties that bind them—and the enemies who will stop at nothing to see them fall. As the past resurfaces, secrets come to light, and the couple is forced to confront the painful truths that have shaped their lives.

In a world where no one can be trusted, Secrets of the Past explores the complexities of love, power, and redemption. Will Alice and Gerald’s bond be strong enough to survive the weight of their families’ legacies, or will the ghosts of the past destroy them both? The stakes have never been higher as they face enemies both old and new, including Randolph, a cunning adversary with his own hidden agenda.

This gripping series is a journey through betrayal, revenge, and the unrelenting pursuit of truth—a tale where the past never stays buried for long, and the future is shaped by the shadows of yesterday.

In this fun and sassy new mystery, USA Today bestselling author Susan McBride introduces us to Helen Evans, a modern-day Miss Marple who must expose a murderer in a town full of suspects!

When Milton Grone turns up dead in tiny River Bend, Illinois, nearly all the would-be suspects have the perfect alibi: attending Thursday night's town meeting. And as Milton was hardly beloved, plenty of folks had a reason to do him in . . .

Grone's next-door neighbor was furious about a fence that encroached on her property, among other wicked deeds. A pair of zealous tree huggers wanted Grone's hide for selling a parcel of pristine land to a water park. Grone's current and ex-wife both wanted a cut of the profits, which Grone seemed unwilling to share. Even the town preacher knew Grone's soul was beyond saving.

Though most of River Bend would rather reward the killer than hang him, Sheriff Biddle's not about to let this one go . . . and neither is Helen Evans. With a penchant for puzzles and an ear for innuendo, Helen quickly fingers the culprit before Biddle puts the wrong suspect in jail.

"The Adventure of the Dancing Men", a Sherlock Holmes story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 13 stories in the cycle published as The Return of Sherlock Holmes in 1905. Doyle ranked "The Adventure of the Dancing Men" third in his list of his twelve favorite Holmes stories. This is one of only two Sherlock Holmes short stories where Holmes' client dies after seeking his help. The other is "The Five Orange Pips", part of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The original title was "The Dancing Men," when it was published as a short story in The Strand Magazine in December 1903.
The story begins when Hilton Cubitt of Ridling Thorpe Manor in Norfolk visits Sherlock Holmes and gives him a piece of paper with the following mysterious sequence of stick figures. - Cubitt explains to Holmes and Dr. Watson that he has recently married an American woman named Elsie Patrick. Before the wedding, she had asked her husband-to-be never to ask about her past, as she had had some "very disagreeable associations" in her life, although she said that there was nothing that she was personally ashamed of. Their marriage had been a happy one until the messages began to arrive, first mailed from the United States and then appearing in the garden.
