Summary

Macbeth by William Shakespeare Macbeth (/məkˈbɛθ/, full title The Tragedie of Macbeth) is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. It is thought to have been first performed in 1606.[a] It dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power.

Of all the plays that Shakespeare wrote during the reign of James I, Macbeth most clearly reflects his relationship with King James, patron of Shakespeare's acting company. It was first published in the Folio of 1623, possibly from a prompt book, and is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy.

A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia.

Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death.

Shakespeare's source for the story is the account of Macbeth, King of Scotland, Macduff, and Duncan in Holinshed's Chronicles (1587), a history of England, Scotland, and Ireland familiar to Shakespeare and his contemporaries, although the events in the play differ extensively from the history of the real Macbeth. The events of the tragedy are usually associated with the execution of Henry Garnet for complicity in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Queen Mary Stuart was one of the most beloved and controversial women in Scottish history. The granddaughter of King James IV and his wife Margaret Tudor, Queen Mary's status as heiress-apparent to Queen Elizabeth's throne in England paired with the violence of the Scottish Reformation set the stage for one of the most dramatic and poorly understood lives of the 16th century. Mary Queen of the Scots tells Mary's true story, focusing primarily on her reign as queen of Scotland, celebrating her life more than her death and showing us all why she was truly a woman ahead of her time.

Diversity is God’s idea—and unity is how we honor God.Our heavenly Father calls us to unite, but Christians remain some of the most divided people on the planet. It seems we mistake God’s call for unity as a command for uniformity: We split along political and denominational lines and prefer our churches, neighborhoods, and other spaces to be filled with those most “like” ourselves. Our segregated habits may satisfy our need for comfort, but division breaks God’s heart. We are called to embrace the miracle of unity, when what was once separated due to difference comes together—when people from every group, nation, and tongue praise the name of Jesus. In Mending Sunday, Skot Welch offers a pathway for putting on the mind of Christ when it comes to diversity and division. God’s unity doesn’t mean giving up our unique identities and the gifts of ethnicity, family, language, or tradition. Rather, when we put Jesus at the center of our lives and communities, we experience a grace and power we’ve never before known. In a culture bent on division, a church that embraces differences becomes the biggest witness for Christ the world has ever seen.

Archetypes can help you write stories that tap the depths of the human experience. This 45-minute guided meditation will help you dive deep into your subconscious creativity and write a resonant Maiden Arc story.
As the first archetypal journey in the cycle of life arcs, the Maiden represents a crucial initiatory experience. This coming-of-age arc will take you and your characters on a journey through all the challenges of growing up, individuating from authority figures, and finding an identity and role in a wider world that often seems overwhelming and even dangerous.
This meditation will help you visualize and imagine important characters and settings. It gives you the opportunity to explore every vital beat while offering all the space you need to find your own unique story. It will show you how your character may interact with corresponding archetypal antagonists (Authority and Predator) and grapple with a thematic Lie and Truth (Submission vs. Sovereignty) in order to evolve from Innocent to Individual.
(Note: Although a feminine arc, this journey may be taken by any character of any gender. Gender-neutral terms are used throughout the meditation to help you apply its imagery to the specifics of your own story.)
K.M. Weiland’s book Writing Archetypal Character Arcs taught writers how to identify and structure the six most important initiatory journeys of the human experience (Maiden, Hero, Queen, King, Crone, and Mage). These “life arcs” include the youthful Hero’s Journey as one of six, but go so much deeper to explore little-known feminine and elder arcs as well.
Now you can explore these archetypal journeys yourself by accessing the potent tool of “dreamzoning.” Just sit back and let your imagination take over as these audio adventures guide you through every important beat in the archetypal arcs.
