I traveled the dirt road with no water in sight.
My lips parched and dry from the burning sun.
My feet cracked and rough, cut with sharp stones.
I had traveled this road many times.
I knew the trail, yet somehow this time
    it seemed unfamiliar;
All around was desolation, bareness, and emptiness.
I was tired of the heat; I cried out to God
    "Father please come rescue me."
He said, "I am right here."
He was just waiting for me to ask for help.
He gave me water for my thirst,
Food for my hungry soul, and he walked on with me.
    I trust him more now,
I know I will never pass this way again.

O Reader, so special and dear!
Perhaps, in a corner, you sit today,
spirit broken, tears rolled, you sway.
    A grain of sand, swept off, só confused;
struggling, searching, your heart suffered, bruised!
Many uncertainties weigh on your soul-
unexpected illness, violence, death a toll.
May poetic words ease your heart's silent plea-
heavenly comfort to help you be free!
To relax and smile through both joy and despair,
read Isaiah 43, find solace in prayer!
And may that tiny grain of silica becomes bright,
unfolding like quartz, bringing beauty and light!
    Wishes from my heart,
    Johanita

Imagine you're scared for your adult sibling. They're on the brink and you want to keep them safe. You think they're mentally ill but they think they're just leftwing.
To make the right choices together you'll need to know the right things. The big question: how do you know if you know the right things?
Where Sat the Lovers is about codes, hallucinations, Isaac Newton, war crimes, seeing meaning where there's none and vice versa. It's about facing an overwhelming world and trying to make sense of it all.
Created by Carys D. Coburn with MALAPROP Theatre, it was first staged at Project Arts Centre, Dublin, as part of the 2021 Dublin Fringe Festival, directed by Claire O'Reilly.

An anthology of stories can be a fun thing or a scary one.
Deciding what goes into an anthology can be daunting. Too much romance and some folks may decide it is ‘too mushy’. Put too much humour in, and others will say, ‘there is no substance’. Go with more science fiction, or fantasy, or horror, and you will have some folks just not pick up the book.
Finding the perfect ‘mix’ is a challenge for sure.
‘Stories to Share with My Partner – Book 3’ presents what I hope is a good mix of stories and poetry to make everyone happy.
You have some love stories, ‘The Red Bug’ and the ‘The Coat’, for example, while science fiction is covered in ‘When the Future Arrives’ and ‘Coordinates’.
Funny stories are what I enjoy writing about, and there are few in this book.
‘So That Is When the Fight Started’ is something many can relate too and in ‘Jerk’ I take a different approach to ‘superheroes’.
I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did when I wrote them.

"There is a powerful emotional undertow to these poems that springs from Mr. Vuong's sincerity and candor, and from his ability to capture specific moments in time with both photographic clarity and a sense of the evanescence of all earthly things." —Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times

In his haunting and fearless debut, Ocean Vuong walks a tightrope of historic and personal violences, creating an interrogation of the American body as a borderless space of both failure and triumph. At once vulnerable and redemptive, dreamlike and visceral, compassionate and unforgiving, these poems seek a myriad existence without forgetting the prerequisite of self-preservation in a world bent on extinguishing its othered voices. Vuong's poems show, through breath, cadence, and unrepentant enthrallment, that a gentle palm on a chest can calm the most necessary of hungers.
