Summary

This edition includes the following editor's introduction: The parallel lives of two of the great masters of British literature: Dickens and Thackeray

Originally published in 1852, “The History of Henry Esmond” is a historical novel by William Makepeace Thackeray which was followed by the successful sequel “The Virginians” (1859). Both novels were composed in the author's mature period and are considered his purest works and his artistic triumph.

Henry Esmond relates his own history in memoir fashion, mainly in the third person but occasionally dropping into the first person. Orphaned in the England of the later Stuarts, Henry Esmond is raised by his aristocratic, Jacobite relatives the Castlewoods. As a young man he falls in love with both Lady Castlewood and Beatrix, her beautiful, headstrong daughter, and is inspired to join the ultimately unsuccessful campaign to reinstate James Stuart to the throne...

When “The History of Henry Esmond” appeared, noted writers and critics of the time acclaimed it as the best historical novel ever written. Thackeray valued it more than any of his other novels and it displays many of his own memories and emotions.

YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES & JOHN WATSON
The case of the missing Shetland Pony.
This completely new story I have written involves the 10 year old boys who will be the great detective Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, his assistant, when they grow up, this is their formative years where they perfect their skills before adulthood on what my appear to be inconsequential subjects, but the principle remains the same.
I have worked very hard and meticulously to provide you with an enjoyable experience, the initial opening credit music which does run to approximately 2 minutes sets the scene, so to speak, a violin Holme's musical instrument of choice and is energetic and the closing music ends the tale on a more restrained mode and only about 1 minute. Even so only $1.25 for your enjoyment.
The story itself runs to about just under 7 minutes and is of course a short story, it is read in my own voice. The story involves the the disappearance of a Shetland Pony called Buttercup belonging to the young daughter, Florence, 0f a the Duke & Duchess of Belgravia who lived in a mansion near Hyde Park in London in the late 1900's and Holmes uses his powers of deduction and observation to track down the pony to a gambling man who almost sold the poor creature to pay off his debts.. Needless to say Holmes solves the mystery, recovers the pony to Florence and her parents delight, with aplomb and goes onto his next case.
The stories are designed to be entertaining to children of approximately the same age around 10 years old due to the characters involved.
I do hope you and your children, if applicable, enjoy this audiobook and let me know what you think, there are a lot more to come!
