Step Into a World Where Logic Fails and the Strange Becomes Reality.

Franz Kafka is the architect of the modern nightmare. His writing captures the unique terror of the 20th century: the feeling of being a small, insignificant cog in a vast, incomprehensible machine. This collection brings together his most profound works, exploring the thin line between the mundane and the monstrous, and the struggle of the individual to find meaning in a world defined by silence and shadow.

This collection explores the pillars of the "Kafkaesque" experience:

The Bureaucracy of the Absurd: Navigate the endless corridors and faceless authorities that define Kafka's vision of modern society, where the rules are unknown and the guilt is assumed.

The Anatomy of Alienation: Experience the visceral, often physical transformations that serve as metaphors for the isolation and rejection felt by the modern soul.

Existential Uncertainty: Witness the struggle of characters who seek justice, entry, or understanding from a universe that remains stubbornly indifferent to their existence.

Psychological Surrealism: Discover the "dream-logic" that governs his narratives, where the impossible is treated with chilling, matter-of-fact realism.

Kafka's influence is inescapable, touching everything from philosophy to film. His ability to articulate the unspoken anxieties of the human condition makes this volume an essential cornerstone for any library of modernist literature, existential philosophy, and surrealist fiction.

"A Country Doctor" is a short story written in 1917 by Franz Kafka. It was first published in the collection of short stories of the same title. In the story, a country doctor makes an emergency visit to a sick patient on a winter night. The doctor faces absurd, surreal predicaments that pull him along and finally doom him.A Country Doctor is perhaps Kafka's most fantastical or surreal work. It takes its cue from Gothic literature – it has echoes of Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne – and analysing and identifying the core 'meaning' of the story has proved tricky. Even when set aside Kafka's other work, 'A Country Doctor' remains particularly cryptic and opaque.

Francis Marion Crawford, an only child, was born on 2nd August 1854 at Bagni di Lucca, Italy. He was a nephew to Julia Ward Howe, the American poet and writer of ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic’.

Crawford was educated at St Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire and then on to Cambridge University, the University of Heidelberg and the University of Rome.

In 1879 he went to India, to study Sanskrit and then to edit The Indian Herald. In 1881 he returned to America to continue his Sanskrit studies at Harvard University.

His family became increasingly concerned about his employment prospects. After an attempt at a singing career as a baritone was ruled out, he was encouraged to write.

In December 1882 his first novel, ‘Mr Isaacs’, was published and was an immediate hit as was his second novel ‘Dr Claudius’ in 1883.

In October 1884 he married Elizabeth Berdan and encouraged by his excellent start to a literary career they returned to Sant Agnello, Italy to make a permanent home, buying the Villa Renzi that then became Villa Crawford.

In the late 1890s, Crawford began work on his historical works which would later include ‘Corleone’, in 1897, the first major treatment of the Mafia in literature.

Crawford is also exceedingly popular and anthologized as a short story writer of bizarre and creepy tales.

In 1908 came his classic ‘The Screaming Skull’. Without doubt its unsettling nature is heightened as the reader/listener is drawn into to the story by its narrator. Everything is explained and plausible until, of course, it isn’t.

Francis Marion Crawford died at Sorrento on Good Friday 1909 at Villa Crawford of a heart attack.

In ‘Man Overboard’ Crawford uncovers the story of identical twins. When one falls overboard it unravels a sequence of events that take years to complete, all with a growing sense of uneasiness that further misery awaits
