Sinopsis

Sensory Influence explores how our senses shape attraction, intimacy, and interpersonal relationships, bridging the gap between biology and psychology. The book argues that sensory experiences actively sculpt our perceptions and emotions, rather than being passive inputs. Did you know that skin-to-skin contact isn't just comforting; it triggers physiological responses that enhance emotional well-being? Or that our sense of smell can unconsciously influence mate selection through complex chemical signals called pheromones?

The book begins by laying a scientific foundation, examining the neurobiology of sensory processing. It then delves into touch, scent, and vision, highlighting their roles in bonding, desire, and attraction. Each chapter presents research and evidence, including neuroimaging studies and behavioral experiments.

The book culminates in a discussion of how these senses synergistically influence our perceptions, making it valuable for anyone interested in the science of human connection or sensory psychology.

Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte was a Chilean military officer and politician who dominated Chilean politics as a military dictator from 1973 to 1990. His rise to power marked a pivotal and controversial chapter in the nation’s history. Initially serving as the leader of the Military Junta of Chile from 1973 to 1981, he was declared President of the Republic by the junta in 1974, consolidating his role as Chile's de facto head of state. With the approval of a new constitution in 1981, his presidency was formalized, making him the de jure leader of the country until 1990.
Pinochet’s military career set the stage for his rise to power. After steadily climbing the ranks of the Chilean Army, he achieved the position of General Chief of Staff in 1972. In an unexpected turn, President Salvador Allende, leader of the democratically elected left-wing Unidad Popular government, appointed Pinochet as Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army on August 23, 1973, just weeks before his eventual ouster. This appointment would prove consequential as Pinochet played a central role in the coup that toppled Allende's government on September 11, 1973. Supported by the United States, the coup ended civilian rule in Chile and marked the beginning of Pinochet’s authoritarian regime.

Laws is Plato's last and longest dialogue. It is generally agreed that Plato wrote this dialogue as an older man, having failed in his effort in Syracuse on the island of Sicily to guide a tyrant's rule, instead having been thrown in prison

The Classical Greek philosopher Plato was instrumental in the development of Western philosophy and science. Plato was born to an aristocratic family and was well-educated. He founded the Academy, one of the first institutions of higher learning, around 385 BC. Plato was highly influenced by his teacher, Socrates. Socrates was condemned to death after being accused of corrupting his young followers. After Socrates' death, Plato recorded several dialogues detailing what he remembered from Socrates' teachings and interactions with others. Almost everything known about Socrates comes from Plato's dialogues. Plato's writings have been revised and interpreted by a variety of publishers.

100 Weeks of Scotlandis a revealing journey into the heart and soul of Scotland in the 100 weeks that led up to the independence referendum in September 2014.

From the signing of the Edinburgh Agreement through to the referendum and its immediate aftermath, this book charts a country in the grip of political debate. 100 Weeks of Scotlandis not simply a political book. It brings together stunning photography and stimulating commentary to capture a country in transition.

It examines Scotland in all its forms from its stunning landscapes to its urban sprawl to, most notably of all, its people as they live their lives in the run up to the most significant democratic event in their country's history. It is a portrait of a nation on the verge of the unknown.

What I discovered was a country made up of people from all over the world, who live and work here and who were given a chance to have their say in how the place they live should govern itself. Civil wars have broken out for less, but we, in this small part of a small island, could do it with the stroke of a pen. It has been an utterly remarkable period in the history of Scotland, one that I am so glad I could live through, and document.<

A collection of pictures that capture a spirit of each area. Rather than focus on the heather and hills, he's turned his camera on the mundane, the Scotland we see every day.
