Summary

In "Famous Stories from Foreign Countries," the anonymous author engages readers with a rich tapestry of tales drawn from diverse cultures around the globe. This anthology not only highlights the distinctive narrative styles peculiar to each culture but also reflects the universal themes of love, conflict, and morality. The literary style is characterized by vivid imagery and engaging prose that invites readers to immerse themselves in the various settings and characters. The collection serves as a cultural bridge, offering insights into the values and beliefs of different societies while weaving intricate narratives that resonate with humanity's shared experiences. The choice of anonymity may suggest a focus on the storytelling tradition itself, rather than on the individual voice of the author, placing emphasis on the collective wisdom and heritage of numerous cultures. This approach is indicative of an era when folklore and mythology were paramount in educating and entertaining audiences worldwide, celebrating not only the stories but also the storytellers from varied backgrounds. I highly recommend "Famous Stories from Foreign Countries" to readers interested in broadening their cultural horizons through literature. This anthology enriches our understanding of the world's narratives, making it an essential read for those who appreciate storytelling as a vital form of human expression.

Go Now! is the true story of Wendell Martin and the amazing adventure he found himself caught up in when he dared to answer God’s call to ‘Go to Hong Kong Now!’
The book is filled with bold faith and miracle stories that take you among the wild head-hunters in northern Philippines, to Communist China where Wendell and his wife, Daisy, made over 1000 border crossings with suitcases loaded with Bibles. It is the story of how God miraculously opened the way to deliver the gospel into every home in Hong Kong, and the surprising miracle that launched a ministry among thousands of Vietnamese Boat People detained in refugee camps in Hong Kong.
However, this book is more than just amazing missionary stories. Wendell gives you an intimate inside look at how God worked deep in his heart, the lessons learned in God’s ‘School of Hard Knocks’ and how the power of God rescued a discontented young man and crafted him into an effective tool for His service.

This book consists of 4 titles, which are:
    - From Normandy to the Rhine: The liberation of Western Europe in the Second World War remains one of the most significant military campaigns in history. The Allied push from Normandy to the Rhine marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, culminating in its eventual surrender in May 1945. However, the path to victory was neither smooth nor inevitable. It was a campaign marked by intense fighting, strategic challenges, and the determination of soldiers from across the globe.
    - Patton's Push: General George S. Patton was one of the most influential military leaders of the 20th century, his name forever linked with boldness, aggression, and relentless pursuit of victory. His legacy as a tactical genius in World War II is undisputed, particularly for his innovative strategies and dynamic leadership during key campaigns in Europe. Patton’s approach to warfare, characterized by rapid movement, audacity, and the application of psychological warfare, was a departure from traditional military doctrine and left an indelible mark on modern military tactics.
    - Operation Overlord: Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, stands as one of the most significant military operations in modern history. Known globally as D-Day, it marked the beginning of the end of Nazi occupation in Western Europe and paved the way for the eventual defeat of Adolf Hitler’s regime.
    - Resistance Fighters: The story of resistance fighters during the Nazi occupation of Europe is one of extraordinary courage and sacrifice. While the grand battles of World War II are well-documented, the covert operations of ordinary individuals working against overwhelming odds often remain in the shadows. These resistance movements, comprised of men, women, and even children, were vital in undermining the Nazi regime and aiding the Allied forces.

From Bicycle to Bentley - A...

Stephen takes the reader from his earliest school days when it became clear he was academically bright, especially in math, attending prep school, winning a scholarship to major public school Uppingham where he won math prizes and, aged 16, passed 3 S (scholarship) levels. By then he had decided to be a bookie. He attended an interview for Cambridge University only because it was on his bicycle route to Newmarket races!

Unable to work in any gambling job until 18, he set about visiting racecourses by bicycle, staying in youth hotels (17½p per night), eventually cycling to all racecourses in the UK, including several now-defunct courses.

At 18 he found employment with Beresford & Smith in London; aged 24 he got his first bookie’s license in 1971 and by the age of 40 in 1986 was betting big on the rails at major meetings such as the Grand National, Cheltenham, Derby, Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, often laying bets to lose £100,000 or more - when money was worth nearly twice today’s value - one of the few bookies who happily stood "toe to toe and traded blow for blow" with big hitters like JP McManus, Barney Curley, Michael Tabor and Harry Findlay.

In 1998 changes in pitch administration prompted early retirement, and he sold his pitches, worked for a few unsatisfactory years for Corals and then departed the big time - with a Bentley as well as a bicycle, a house in Georgian Bath and a satisfactory bank balance.

A riveting storyline that includes a sting operation carried out by 20-armed federal agents on the tarmac of a South Florida runway, and the tales of a prisoner living inside America’s maximum security prison, Leavenworth Penitentiary – this autobiography will captivate you from start to finish.Arrested With a Stolen JetIt was 9:05 in the morning. The sun was shining as our crew drove the silver Mercedes to meet the pilot of the Cessna Citation II jet taxiing toward us on the tarmac of the executive airfield in Florida.Something seemed off, but it was too late for the four of us to abort the mission. We were committed. The door of the plane opened, and off stepped the pilot I’d met with two days earlier at a Kansas City hotel room. He had agreed, for a price, to deliver a jet that was on our laundry list of planes we were stealing from the United States and delivering to the Colombians in South America. This was our second plane in a month. The pick-up place was Boca Raton, and the delivery location, Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, where the plane would be repainted in a hanger, data plates changed, and then used in the cocaine trafficking world by the Cali Cartel.Later, I would discover two things: Boca Raton is translated, Mouth of the Rat, and a big rat was among us.I pulled a bag filled with cash from our vehicle and stepped onto the plane to meet the pilot to hand over a partial payment. The rest would be delivered once the plane was safely in the air. My pilot entered behind me in preparation to take the captain’s seat.In a matter of seconds, 20+ federal agents descended on us from all four sides, in unmarked vehicles and running on foot, all with weapons. The next thing I knew, a chrome 45 caliber pistol was pointed in my face while the agent was yelling, “Get your hands up, YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!”Everything was happening so fast. My head was spinning. My hands automatically went up in the air to display the international sign of surrender.

Vivian, the headmaster of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, was also a singular author, poet, painter, actor, and iconic British eccentric. This unique audiobook offers rare insight into the brilliant clockwork mind of this late British national treasure. Renaissance man Stanshall holds forth on a number of insightful topics relating to his turbulent life and enticing, inspirational, evergreen work. This in-depth production also includes a concise one-hour biological overview of Vivian’s life as well as the personal remembrances of his close friend and longtime colleague, Giuliano. Stanshall was the quintessential, offbeat pop icon of the 60s, 70s and 80s. His tales of the upper-class Rawlinsons and Maynards are perfect fare for anyone with a warped sense of humor. Born Victor Anthony Stanshall, March 21, 1943, Shillingford, Oxfordshire, his post-WWII family settled in the coastal town of Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. From teenage bingo-caller to painting fairground attractions (and a spell in the merchant navy), Viv enrolled at London’s Central School of Art and Design. It was there in September 1962, he met Roger Ruskin Spear, Rodney Slater and Neil Innes (the latter attended nearby Goldsmiths College) and, with other equally unorthodox musicians, formed The Bonzo's. They appeared in the Beatles ' Mystery Tour' movie in 1967, to an off-kilter top 10 hit with `I’m The Urban Spaceman’ a year later, As the Dogs decided to split in early 1970 (after four LPs: `Gorilla’, `The Doughnut In Granny’s Greenhouse’, `Tadpoles’ and `Keynsham’), it presented an opportunity for Viv to explore his inner-madness on a few now highly collectable 45s. Contractual duties led Viv back to the Bonzos for 1972’s 'Let’s Make Up And Be Friendly’ – showcasing his sophisticated, spoken-wordsmith’s introduction to Sir Henry, via the 9-minute `Rawlinson End’.
