For bell hooks, the best cultural criticism sees no need to separate politics from the pleasure of reading. Yearning collects together some of hooks's classic and early pieces of cultural criticism from the '80s. Addressing topics like pedagogy, postmodernism, and politics, hooks examines a variety of cultural artifacts, from Spike Lee's film Do the Right Thing and Wim Wenders's film Wings of Desire to the writings of Zora Neale Hurston and Toni Morrison. The result is a poignant collection of essays which, like all of hooks's work, is above all else concerned with transforming oppressive structures of domination.

Anthony Trollope’s novels contain vivid character sketches of clergy, from bishops to curates, as watchers of the BBC TV Barchester series will know. Here are priests where snobbery, jealousy, ambition and greed sit alongside love, kindness and generosity, often in equal measure.

Alongside each of his twelve pictures of Trollopian priests, Michael Higgins has created their modern counterparts, Trollope’s Church of England may have been better attended and more prosperous than it is today yet the humble, quiet and attractive Mr Harding and the climbing ambitious Mr Slope still walk the streets of our parishes. They stand as living proof human nature never changes, the simple truth underlined by each pair of characters in this book.

Here is a gripping, thought provoking read which will tell you more about clergy than you knew or imagined – whether you are “into” Church matters or a curious outsider.

Sometimes lighthearted and always real, The Joy Strategist shows readers how to break through creative or emotional ruts that keep them from tapping into their innate ability to feel true and unfettered joy. Grace coaches readers with meaningful autobiographical anecdotes and her toolbox of playful activities, which include: --Reconnecting with your “inner GPS,” the pilot light that guided you toward joyful experience without inhibition as a child. --Ceasing the war you’ve waged against your Heart and heal the wounds preventing you from giving and receiving love. -- Cultivating your “Starting Five,” or the community of people closest to you that will show up and support you on your journey, and how to best show up for them as well. --Breaking free from your Ego and dismantling the limiting beliefs that keep your deepest hopes and aspirations out of grasp. Do you feel alone even when surrounded by family? Do you sense that your life has been organized around someone else's moods, approval, or emotional fragility? In The Invisible Inheritance, neuroscientist and clinical psychologist Gregory Bicaj explains why so many capable, caring adults carry wounds they cannot name — and offers a clear, compassionate path toward understanding and recovery. Drawing on two decades of laboratory research and clinical practice, Bicaj shows how emotionally immature parenting leaves a hidden legacy: survival roles we adopt as children, fantasies we build to endure emotional absence, and nervous-system patterns that continue firing long after we leave home.

Guy W. Ballard (July 28, 1878-December 29, 1939) and his wife, Edna Anne Wheeler Ballard, founded the I AM Movement. Ballard served in the US Army in World War I and then became a mining engineer. Both he and Edna studied theosophy and the occult extensively. In 1930 Ballard visited Mount Shasta in California, where he met another hiker who identified himself as the Count of St. Germain. These experiences are recorded in the three books Ballard wrote using the pen name Godfre Ray King. The I AM movement was one of the most successful, flamboyant, and controversial of the late 1930s. Ballard's teachings form the original nucleus for what are today called the Ascended Master Teachings and are still being taught by I AM sanctuaries all over the world.
