Donna, an experienced nurse, is a master storyteller. Nurses help so many people during tragedy and heartache. Walking down hospital halls can be a frightening heart-breaking experience. Yet, some degree of hope and comfort can be found through sharing life-changing true experiences from friends, patients, and family. A Christian perspective is given as scripture is creatively threaded throughout the chapters. Consider the gems of our private collection of personal stories that can only be enjoyed if shared. Grandma will simplify the understanding of salvation with apple pie, in "Salvation by the Slice." Meet Louie in the ICU, an underground miner who survived an accident and encountered God in the most amazing way. Enjoy the way God orchestrates life when He is "My Paul Harvey God." Perhaps in your life the word coincidence will be transformed into God-incidence. Ponder the power available to all who pray as you examine "Quality Connections."Scripture often states God's "Expectations and Promises" are connected. The topics of honor, giving, forgiving, and love saturated with obedience are helpful reminders of what we do well and what we may consider improving. The rich messages of "The Whatever Principle" will be familiar to so many. The chapters, "God's Gear" and "Enemy Tactics" shine a new perspective on those who choose to threaten or tarnish a persons reputation. And the chapter, "Are you Looking for a Sign" shares one of my favorite memories of a family of strong faith in the face of a loved one's death. Come seeking and you're sure to find;A blessing for your heart and mind,Some comfort for your pain.Listen to these words and I will tellstories that can make you well.God's grace will fall like rain.Lay down your heartaches and your fears.Accept His love. Let Him draw near.Your life will never be the same!Donna

Black Holes and Beyond - The...

Black holes are some of the most fascinating and mysterious objects in the universe. These regions of space are so dense that their gravitational pull is strong enough to prevent anything, even light, from escaping. The term "black hole" was first coined by physicist John Archibald Wheeler in 1967, though the concept dates back to the early 20th century, when Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity suggested that objects could collapse into singularities, points of infinite density. A black hole is the result of such a collapse, where a star's mass is concentrated in an infinitely small space.
At the heart of a black hole is the singularity, surrounded by a boundary known as the event horizon. The event horizon marks the point beyond which nothing can escape the black hole’s gravitational influence. This includes not only matter but also radiation, which is why black holes appear "black." Despite their invisibility, black holes are detectable through their interactions with surrounding matter, such as the accretion of gas and dust that emits detectable radiation.
The formation of a black hole typically begins when a massive star exhausts its nuclear fuel. Without the outward pressure from nuclear fusion to counterbalance gravity, the core of the star collapses under its own weight. If the star is massive enough, this collapse can continue, compressing the core into a singularity. The outer layers of the star are expelled in a supernova explosion, and the remaining core becomes a black hole.

Trees have much to offer as soul friends, and their millennia of growth and loss provide deep wisdom, if we know how to pay attention. The Spiritual Wisdom of Trees encourages us to revel in the beauty and wonder of trees as they increase our capacity to bear witness to loss and grief. Integrating science and spirituality, coauthors Beth Norcross and Leah Rampy explore the knowledge held within the living world of trees and planted within each of us.

Drawing on extensive experience in both forest ecology and spirituality, Norcross and Rampy invite us into a deep mutual relationship with trees, whose wisdom provides comfort, resilience, guidance, and hope. Living amid the uncertainty of climate chaos and biodiversity loss, we experience loneliness, anxiety, grief, and fear. Such times call us to a fuller spiritual presence, richer connections to the world around us, and a deeper knowing that all are held within a sacred web of life.

Pulling from the Center for Spirituality in Nature organization's coursework, Norcross and Rampy offer us guidance and practices based on their experiences leading walks, retreats, and pilgrimages for over two decades. When we learn the ecology of the forest and how to be present in nature, our eyes are opened to the awe and wonder of our world, deepening our sense of sacred oneness.
