Sinopsis

'One of our very best authors ... Very funny, very moving novel' The New World
'Charming portrait of friendship and loneliness' Daily Mail
'Deeply comforting' Guardian
'Funny, inventive and beautifully heart-breaking' Irish Times
Have you ever been curious about how people live when nobody is watching? Have you wondered whether there's more going on than meets the eye?
Eric and Carl live in Dorset in a small white cottage under the shadow of a big cliff. Eric sells old records and antiques. Carl cooks, cleans and crochets. Nearing seventy, Eric is a lifelong accumulator of obscure objects whose easygoing, chaotic approach to life masks some of the unaddressed sadness of his past. The significantly younger Carl is an old soul who has a sophisticated emotional intelligence and likes swimming, mid-century female novelists, fibre arts and Dolly Parton. If you passed them on a walk, you may not pay them much attention. Most likely you would see Carl's long floppy ears, tail and fur and mistake him for a dog.
The story of Eric and Carl's friendship spans twenty-one years: a constant anchor in a changing world. During that time they adopt an eccentric, unlikely gang of fellow travellers. Their wanderings through South West England unfold against a backdrop of lived, local folklore and hints at future apocalypse. All the while, Carl's true nature remains a closely guarded secret.
Tom Cox's third novel is a rare gem, centred around the importance of friendship, the power of landscape and the joy of accepting the unusual. Everything Will Swallow You will make you think deeply about the place you occupy in the grand scheme of things and give fresh perspectives on how to live and love in the present moment.

"A Car Crash of Sorts" by Frank Marcopolos is a short story that delves into themes of existential ennui, regret, and the search for meaning. The narrative uses the car journey and alternate points of view as symbols for life's disquieting journey, with the crash representing a moment of clarity or breakdown. The story captures the melancholy of aging, the fading of youth's drive, and the quiet desperation to find or reclaim purpose in life.
The prose style of Marcopolos is noted for its introspective, somewhat fragmented nature, mirroring the confusion and fragmented memories of the protagonist. The story doesn't resolve in a traditional sense but leaves the reader with a sense of the ongoing struggle to find meaning in a life that might seem to others like a series of unremarkable events or "crashes."
Based on real events, this is a tale woven into the fabric of an every-man's life.
Frank Marcopolos lives in Florida with his dog, Sparky.

This is an excellent time travelling story, with the usual logical paradoxes. This includes a trip to a museum of the future where they speak a version of English that is almost unrecognizable at times. It’s occasionally very funny and full of brilliant hard SF technical terms like the “whatdewmacallit” effect. A fascinating vision of the future earth.

Acting is my job, but even I can't pretend Ash Draper isn't the hottest guy I've ever met.

Ash was my first love—and my first heartbreak. When our high school relationship fell victim to distance and circumstance, I focused on my career. My first major movie releases in a few months, and I'm on the cusp of breaking out. For publicity, I'm paired with an established actor with a reputation in need of rehab. The assignment is simple: pretend to date. I'll get exposure, and the beleaguered actor gets my squeaky-clean image.

But the plan doesn't account for my still-gorgeous ex-boyfriend.

Ash has transferred to Chesterboro University to play for their hockey team. Before long, the tabloids learn that we used to date, and a simple gesture sets off a firestorm of gossip placing me in the middle of a fake love triangle. To diffuse the situation, Ash and I need to pretend to be friends. Though we've both changed, the more time we spend together, the more we find that nothing has changed how we feel about each other.

We couldn't weather hard times before, though, and I'm not sure we can do it now. But Ash wants to convince me that we deserve another chance . . .
