Summary

The narrator of Hogg is a Huck Finn–like youngster caught in society’s most sinister seams—but unlike Huck, he passes no moral judgments on the violence he takes part in . . .Hogg is the story of a man—a depraved trucker named Franklin Hargus, whom the people he works for call Hogg—and of the nameless boy who tells the story of three days of unspeakable sexual violence and devastation, which, together, they initiate in a small seaside American city in the middle of the last century. Hogg is a towering brute who makes his living as a rapist for hire. By the end of a series of vicious attacks, kidnappings, and mass murders, the reader will wonder who is more corrupt: the man or the boy.   Samuel R. Delany completed his first draft of Hogg within a day, if not within hours, of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City and revised it over the next four years, though it was not released until 1995.

Their secret romance ended badly— with bitter words neither can take back.
She’s disappeared to start over where scandal can’t touch her.
He’s found her anyway, and this time he’s not walking away—no matter what she's hiding.

    KICK
When Isabel Van Orr disappears after our family’s wine auction instead of flying to Italy, I volunteer to track her down. What I don’t tell anyone is that Isabel and I had a secret relationship that ended badly, and I’m the reason she’s running. When I find her working at a small vineyard under a fake name, she begs me to leave. But the fear in her eyes tells me she’s hiding something bigger than embarrassment. So I make her a deal: let me stay and prove I’m not the man she thinks I am, and after she tells me the truth, I’ll walk away if that’s what she wants. The problem? The longer I stay, the more I realize leaving her is the last thing I’ll ever do.

    ISABEL
I’ve spent years being “that pathetic woman” who publicly chased Snapper Avila, so when I fell into a secret relationship with his younger brother, Kick, I thought I’d finally found someone who saw the real me. Then I nearly sabotaged his family’s wine project out of jealousy, proved him right about my worst qualities, and we ended things badly. Weeks later, everything changed. Rather than face the humiliation and judgment waiting for me at home, I disappeared to a small town where no one knows my name. But Kick tracks me down, sees through my lies, and refuses to leave. Now I’m faced with an impossible choice: keep running and protect myself from the scandal that will destroy what’s left of my reputation, or trust the man I love with the secret that could bind us together forever—or tear us apart when his family learns the truth.

Happily ever after is never easy …

Formerly an evil queen, Merrigan has reformed. Reunited with her childhood true love, Prince Bryan, she sets out to return to her father's kingdom, to break the curse she caused to fall on it.

In every kingdom along the way, Merrigan and Bryan, and their friends, Bib the magic book and Crystal the magic mirror, face magical puzzles and curses that must be lifted.

A league of disgruntled, elitist majjians are turning happily-ever-afters into curses, in their quest to control all the magic in the world. Talking frogs and swans are vanishing. The majjian springs are drying up, threatening the source of magic everywhere.

    Magic to Spare:

Someone has decided that magic needs to be rationed, and only those worthy should be allowed to use it.

The problem is that no one gave them the authority to do that, or agreed on the definition of "worthy."

    That was the first mistake.

Right behind it was the decision to turn a princess into a spoiled brat, to use her to take control of the majjian springs, the source of magic throughout the world.

“There are four basic reasons why someone commits murder. The first and most powerful is love. The second—equally powerful—is hate. Almost equally compelling is revenge. The fourth is profit. Money. When one family member kills another, one or more of them is almost always the motive, and the murders on Calypso Key were no exception.” —Harry Starke
It was one of those beautiful, balmy days on Calypso Key in the US Virgin Islands. The sky was blue and a cool breeze was blowing in off the ocean as Harry and Amanda took their vows. All of their friends were there and all was well with the world … and then the sky fell. Harry draws the line at getting involved when the death of one of his father’s friends intrudes upon his wedding day, until he finds out he owes the girl’s father a debt he can never repay. And so he is dragged into an investigation of not just one murder, but two—and the wealthiest, most dysfunctional family he’s ever met. The cast of characters includes a former Navy Seal—now a butler—a man up to his eyes in shady financial dealings, and the woman at the heart of it all, who was pushed to her death from a third-story balcony. Harry clears a few hours to enjoy the good life on Calypso Key, but as for the investigation … well, we all know that when Harry’s involved, nothing is ever quite what it seems.

Perhaps Blackwood's most celebrated story, The Willows was influenced heavily by his own trips down the Danube River. It tells the story of two campers who pick the wrong place to sleep for the night, a place where another dimension impinges on our own. H.P. Lovecraft considered this the finest supernatural tale in English literature.
