Summary

Caleb Forrest, a twenty-two-year-old modern-day fisherman, has a tale to tell, a tale of justified murder, as he sees it. Experiencing a sort of amnesia from his last trip at sea, he pushes off aboard his prized Cat boat ‘Sea Gypsy’ for a one-day journey that will take him past his childhood haunts and the memories, both good and bad, that go along with them. The last descendent of a once proud seafaring family, Caleb’s left with a burden of land he does not need and cannot afford but must hold onto for tradition sake. Along with his heroic, albeit flawed grandfather, Caleb is pitted against an unscrupulous builder turned town politico who, bound by an ever-decreasing coastline, will do anything to get the land, even if that means using his first-born son as chess piece to do it.
The tale is set amidst the unimaginable beauty of an as yet unspoiled moorland and the ultimate sacrifice it will take to protect it. Culminating on the desolate, windswept dunes of Monomoy Island, the young fisherman must finally come to grips with his crime or face something much more daunting than any hangman’s gallows.

"Sit down with Todd Forrest Sherman and let him entertain you. He has crafted a powerful Cape Cod tale of families and jealousies and murder that feels as familiar as the sand in your shoes, yet as fresh as a bright beach day after a week of rain. So go to Cape Cod with Sherman and his characters. You won't want to come back." - William Martin New York Times Bestselling author of Cape Cod and December '41 .

"An intoxicating tale. Beautifully written and deeply reseached, place Todd Forrest's Into the Realm up there with the greatest books ever written about Cape Cod. It's that good!" - Casey Sherman, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Finest Hours and Helltown.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle is a masterful collection of detective stories that introduced the world to one of literature's most iconic and enduring characters. First published in 1892, these twelve captivating tales follow the brilliant consulting detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal companion, Dr. John Watson, as they unravel mysteries that confound the police and astonish readers.

From the fog-laden streets of London to quiet country estates, Holmes applies his extraordinary powers of observation and deductive reasoning to solve cases involving stolen jewels, hidden identities, secret codes, and baffling disappearances. Each story presents a puzzle that challenges conventional thinking, inviting readers to follow Holmes's logical process as he transforms the smallest detail into a decisive clue.

Narrated by Dr. Watson, the collection balances intellectual intrigue with warmth and humanity. Watson's perspective provides insight into Holmes's remarkable mind—his sharp intellect, eccentric habits, and unwavering confidence. Through their partnership, readers experience not only the thrill of investigation but also the loyalty and respect that define their enduring friendship.

Among the most famous stories in the volume are "A Study in Scarlet's" successor tales such as "A Scandal in Bohemia," which introduces the formidable Irene Adler; "The Red-Headed League," a brilliantly constructed mystery of deception; and "The Speckled Band," one of the most suspenseful and chilling cases in the canon. Each narrative showcases Conan Doyle's talent for tightly woven plots, atmospheric settings, and dramatic revelations.

Beyond their gripping mysteries, these stories offer a vivid portrait of Victorian society. The bustling metropolis, with its contrasts of wealth and poverty, respectability and crime, forms a rich backdrop to Holmes's investigations. The cases reflect the anxieties and curiosities of a rapidly changing world, where science, industry, and urban life create new challenges—and new crimes.

Holmes himself stands as a symbol of rational thought and modern detection. His reliance on evidence, chemistry, disguise, and keen psychological insight helped shape the future of crime fiction. Through him, Conan Doyle established many of the conventions that continue to define the detective genre today.

Endlessly engaging and ingeniously crafted, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes remains a cornerstone of classic literature and mystery storytelling. With its memorable characters, clever twists, and timeless appeal, this collection invites readers to step into 221B Baker Street and witness the art of deduction at its finest.
