Through a modern style, strong and yet delicate metaphors which often draw on the natural world, the poet conveys to her readers both a representation of a modern world firm in its banalities and the portrait of a human being, a strong woman who, at ease in her own skin, summons the fortitude to look back into her past and into the heart-breaking moments that made her who she is now. Eliot, and Victor Hugo, and by a mother who taught her “to arrange the “galloping moments of existence at such verbal angles as to remind the ear that music bows to nothing, not even the whip of misfortune”, Tmbrr(Sì)i does not believe in dates but in the feelings the past holds and that, once brought to light, compel her to write down the words which now with “trembling hands” are being passed to her readers.

Written specifically for young people, the play formed part of the 2020, 2021 and 2023 National Theatre Connections Festivals and was premiered by youth theatres across the UK. It offers opportunities for a large, flexible cast of any size, age and mix of genders.

At once a poetry collection and a documentary novella, The Orchid Folios reimagines the orchid as a living, breathing document of history: a history that enmeshes the personal, colonial, linguistic, and biotechnological with the Vanda Miss Joaquim, the symbol of Singapore’s postcolonial hybridity. While the Orchid has shaped the fantastical narratives that govern our multiracial City in a Garden, it continues to shape-shift and bloom on its own terms, challenging us to imagine a decolonised Singapore. This is the organism at the heart of The Orchid Folios—by turns stark and unruly, documenting and challenging the narratives that are the roots of our national consciousness.
