~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Later, I met Marvin for a quick lunch at a deli across from his office. I asked him to check my right ankle as he wolfed down a corn beef sandwich. My husband quickly looked down at my leg while chewing his last bite, but his jaws stopped moving when he saw what was there.
“I don’t want to break one of your rules, so I have to tell you that the sales lady came on to me.” I found myself biting my lower lip while waiting for Marvin’s reaction. “We didn’t talk about women, so I don’t know if I broke your hotwife rules.”
Marvin’s kiss was hotter than ever, except for the taste of Corn Beef.
“Honey,” I said. “I’m so turned on right now that I’ll agree to anything for you.”
“Go find a man,” he said. By this time, a group of boys were watching us. I didn’t know how much they’d heard. I tried to get my husband’s attention, but he kissed me as he said he had to return to work.
I was sitting alone by the window in the deli after he left when a tall, strong-looking young man walked toward me and sat down in Marvin’s chair. He was followed closely by four or five other guys.
“I heard you need a man,” he said. His face was a mask of arrogance and excitement.
“How old are you?” I asked him, trying to act as if I didn’t really care how old he was.
“About nine inches,” he answered.
I was surprised by his answer, and my eyes involuntarily swung downward. A thick snake ran down his shorts, ending just short of the leg hole. I felt my mouth water, but I wasn’t sure about this guy. I tried to say something, but my mouth wasn’t working right.
He moved closer until the head of whatever was in his shorts was touching my bare thigh. “I’ll treat you right.” I moved my leg away from him.
“What about all your friends?”
“Don’t worry about them; I’ll tell ‘em to get lost.”
I stood and collected my bag; he had a hopeful look on his face. “I have to go,” I said, moving toward the door. I had to walk around him, and he caught my arm. I didn’t try to get loose; I only looked down at my arm, wondering what he planned to do. What he did was rub that thing along the back of my hand. I could feel it harden against me.
Then Dale, the manager, came over and offered to drive me home. I told him I’d driven and that I’d be okay, but I thanked him for his kind offer.
“Good,” the kid said. “You can give me a ride.”
I noticed how big he was, at least a head taller than me, and his body was shaped like a capital V. He turned my hand around to rub against my palm. I felt the skin moving over a large head, sending me a thrill.
    In the spirit of medieval writer Chaucer, all human activity lies within the artist’s scope, the History of Man Series uses medicine as a jumping off point to explore precisely that, all history, all science, all human activity since the beginning of time. The jumping off style of writing takes the reader, the listener into worlds unknown, always returning to base, only to jump off again. History of Man are stories and tales of nearly everything.
    The Third History of Man leaves bacteria in the rear-view mirror and jumps to viruses and viral infections, the cold, the flu and COVID-19, not just another flu. We’ll cover epidemics, pandemics, and vaccines, the pox infections, and the Spock principle that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few … or the one. From COVID and the rise of Zoom, we’ll venture into the rise of Homo sapiensand the fall of Neanderthals, the high sea adventures of Darwin aboard and the high sea adventures of dementia. Our travels will take us along the Silk Road and Spice Trade, another visit with the Age of Discovery when masted ships and European explorers went looking for that elusive sea route to the Far East, and looking for gold, annihilating huge swaths of indigenous Americans at every port of disembarkation, not by the pointy end of a sword, but by tiny infectious microbes. We’ll examine colonialism at its finest, the sordid European history of imperialism and the land grab into Africa and the New World Americas.
    Democracy - A Guided Tour
    In this short, accessible book, leading democratic theorist Jason Brennan guides listeners through the evolution of the concept of democracy and actual democratic practice over time to help them understand the foundations of this longstanding and yet newly fragile political system.
    In his wide-ranging tour of the concept, Brennan will examine what democracy meant to the Greeks who first developed the concept before examining how it changed throughout European and later Western history. This will open up rich and perplexing questions. Over time, democracy shifted from being a fringe idea to the gold standard of political institutions: how did this change occur? How did the question of who counts as part of the ruling "people" change over time? As monarchies were replaced with democracies, what did theorists think the promises and perils of republican democracy were? How did actual democratic practice change the debates? What have we learned about how democracy functions—and in some cases, doesn't function—and what does this mean for future philosophical or empirical work? Brennan provides a curated, guided tour of the most important arguments for and against democracy, looking through the core values of stability, virtue, wisdom, freedom, and equality. The goal is to help listeners understand what is really at stake in democracy and its alternatives.
    Doing It All - The Social Power...
    A feminist exploration of single motherhood and a passionate call to reclaim the power of mothering
    In the United States, one child in five is raised by a single mother. Yet the single mom is still cast as victim or welfare queen, sexually irresponsible or too independent for her own (or her children's) good.
    In Doing It All, journalist and single mother Ruby Russell tells a different story, of single mothering not defined by loss by whole and powerful in its own right. She finds narratives of liberation in Victorian brothels and postwar British slums, in Black feminist theory and the grassroots activism of women fighting for welfare rights.
    Doing It All is a personal quest for empowerment, a fierce critique of the systems that leave single moms marginalized and exhausted, and a call to reclaim mothering as the life force of sustainable, connected, and radically responsible communities.
