Summary

Understanding God's Righteousness through His Final Judgment of Sin
The reality of God's ultimate punishment is central to the gospel. Only by facing sin's devastation can believers fully grasp the beauty of their salvation and help unbelievers confront their need for forgiveness. Unfortunately, many Christians and Bible scholars neglect God's final judgment.
In his book The Justice and Goodness of God, theologian Thomas Schreiner offers a comprehensive, biblical analysis of eternal destruction. Explaining that "final judgment doesn't contradict God's goodness but verifies and displays it," he examines themes of sin, death, and redemption in the New Testament and other passages of Scripture. With helpful personal and theological application, this brief guide helps readers see how God's judgment is anchored in his holiness, justice, and righteousness. Readers will see that God's judgment isn't bad news but good news. Life doesn't make sense without it, and salvation shines brighter against the backdrop of God's judgment.

- Brief yet Insightful: Examines themes of sin, death, mercy, and holiness, with helpful Scripture references and summaries in each chapter
- Rich Biblical Analysis: Studies eternal destruction as described in the Gospels, the Pauline Epistles, and throughout Scripture
- Ideal for College and Seminary Students
Available since: 04/25/2024.
Print length: 160 pages.

HOLY BIBLE - GALATIANS: NEW LIVING TRANSLATION (NLT) The Holy Bible, New Living Translation, is an authoritative Bible translation, rendered faithfully into today’s English from the ancient texts by 90 leading Bible scholars. The NLT’s living language breathes life into even the most difficult-to-understand Bible passages—but even more powerful are stories of how people’s lives are changing as the words speak directly to their hearts. The New Living Translation is perfect for every age and stage of life, allowing every member of the family to read the same text.   What method did the translators use in making the NLT? The translators of the New Living Translation set out to render the message of the original texts of Scripture into clear, contemporary English. As they did so, they translated as simply and literally as possible when that approach yielded an accurate, clear, and natural English text. Many words and phrases were rendered literally and consistently into English, preserving essential literary and rhetorical devices, ancient metaphors, and word choices that give structure to the text and provide echoes of meaning from one passage to the next. On the other hand, the translators rendered the message more dynamically when the literal rendering was hard to understand, was misleading, or yielded archaic or foreign wording. They clarified difficult metaphors and terms to aid in the reader’s understanding. The translators first struggled with the meaning of the words and phrases in the ancient context; then they rendered the message into clear, natural English. Their goal was to be both faithful to the ancient texts and eminently readable. The result is a translation that is both exegetically accurate and idiomatically powerful. More than 90 Bible scholars, along with a group of accomplished English stylists, worked closely together toward that goal. In the end, the NLT is the result of precise scholarship conveyed in living, contemporary language.

The doctrine of providence is often too abstract, complex, or detached from real-life situations for introductory students. Drawing on years of experience in the classroom and the church, Adamson Co offers an introductory guide that uses the creation motif of the Bible to highlight the importance of providence for the Christian life.

Co begins with a brief introduction to providence to give students the "state of the question." He then explores the classical theme of the seventh and eighth days of creation as a helpful way to understand providence. He sets providence and human existence within the metanarrative of the Bible while explicating the doctrine in an overview fashion. Co demonstrates how the seventh and eighth days of creation bring clarity to traditional issues raised in systematic theology, such as preservation, governance, and concurrence; the problem of evil; and divine sovereignty and human free will.

Providence in the Story of Scripture challenges listeners to live out a life of partnership with God in his providence and shows how the blessed hope of the Christian faith is God's life-transforming providence for today. The book includes a foreword by Kevin J. Vanhoozer.

The Didache—formally “The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles”—is a sixteen chapter handbook composed in Koine Greek around 90–150 AD, most likely in Syria or Asia Minor. Throughout, it emphasizes orderly community life, describing how to recognize and receive itinerant prophets, how to appoint bishops and deacons, and how to maintain hospitality and discipline within the fellowship. The work closes with a sober eschatological charge, urging believers to watch and pray for Christ’s imminent return.
Although it was widely referenced by church fathers, the Didache itself was lost after the early centuries of Christianity and survived only in fragmentary quotations. In 1873, Greek Orthodox bishop Philotheos Bryennios discovered an eleventh century Greek manuscript (Codex Hierosolymitanus 54) in the library of the Jerusalem monastery of the Holy Sepulchre and published the full text in 1883. Since then, two much earlier papyrus fragments—one Greek from Oxyrhynchus and one in Coptic held by the British Museum—have confirmed its antiquity and helped scholars restore its original wording.
