Summary

Born into heartbreak before he even took his first breath, Thomas Murphy entered the world carrying the weight of tragedy. His father's life was cut short in a devastating motorcycle accident before Thomas was born, leaving a void that would shape his journey.

Through pain, loss and ultimately, redemption, growing up on the streets of Liverpool, Thomas faced a world that offered little comfort and even fewer chances. His search for his identity led him through dark and dangerous chapters, moments of grief, a fatal car accident that claimed two innocent lives, and the cold reality of prison walls.

Time is a raw, emotional, and deeply human story, proof that even from the darkest beginnings, light can be found.

Faith to Faith - A Warrior Story...

Many people believe that resilience is something a person is born with. One either has it or they don’t. While that may ring true for some, I believe that resilience can be created. When we choose to take control of our traumas, we develop the ability to harness them and use them as fuel to propel our lives toward greatness. Before you turn the page and journey deeper into my life and how I became the person I am today, I want to take you to a pivotal moment in my life. You see, if it were not for this moment, you may not be reading this book today. This moment was the morning of April 7, 2018… the end of my career.
After 35 years of service, I was finally retiring. This may not seem like much to some, but for me, I had done the impossible. You need to understand something very important about why this moment was so crucial for me. At the time of my retirement, I had attained the highest possible rank as a noncommissioned officer within the organization. I retired as the State Command Sergeant Major for the Georgia Army National Guard. I was also the Senior Enlisted leader of the Georgia Department of Defense. What’s most shocking about this? All the labels’ scholars and medical psychologists have said are certain failures that one cannot overcome are not facts, just opinions that I’m sharing that you can overcome.
Writing this book in the year 2025, many people would not be impressed by this at all. However, the further you delve into this book, the more clarity you will have. Several obstacles stood in the way of my reaching this moment, and my blackness was one of them. Growing up in the rural South, I experienced the family structure and culture of the time.

While most successful sidemen are lucky to spend a decade in the music business, multi-instrumentalist Mark Rivera is working on his fifth.

Rivera has shared the stage with some of Rock 'n' Roll's greatest performers, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Tony Bennett, Sheila E., Joe Walsh, Hall & Oates, and Peter Gabriel.

How does he do it while avoiding the typical pitfalls—falling out of favor with the band, burnout, depression?

A devoted father and husband for nearly forty years, Rivera's recollections in Sideman demonstrate that while he struggled to balance the two worlds—a rock 'n' roller circling the globe and a regular guy worried about putting food on the table—his body's compulsion to always be playing music kept him in constant pursuit of "the next gig."

Full of optimism, humor, and candor, Rivera turns the spotlight on the sideman's life, revealing not only what it takes to climb the industry ladder (and stay there), but something more surprising: a bit of ourselves rocking out amongst all those superstars.

A fully revised and updated edition of Nigel Lawson's extraordinary autobiography. A key minister for a full decade and Chancellor of the Exchequer, from 1983 to 1989, Nigel Lawson was one of the most powerful and effective of Margaret Thatcher's colleagues, and among the chief architects of Thatcherism. This abridged edition of Lord Lawson's memoirs - first published as The View from No.11 in 1992 and acclaimed as one of the best political memoirs of the period - goes straight to the heart of economic policy-making at a time of crisis and creative change. It explains the workings of government with candour, clarity and depth, against the backdrop of the remarkable story of the rise and fall of his political collaboration with Margaret Thatcher, productive and successful for many years, but ending with his dramatic resignation in October 1989.The book includes a new final chapter reflecting on events from the perspective of 2010, also discussing the crisis in the banking sector and global warming.

A MID-LIFE ADVENTURE IN THE CATALAN COUNTRYSIDE

Two Scorpios with a relationship of only six months, minimal Spanish, amateur DIY skills, and no catering experience – what could possibly go wrong? This story isn't just about DIY. It offers a glimpse into life among the wonderful rural folk of Catalonia, where the author forged lifelong friendships and learned about a region steeped in history, still bearing the scars of the civil war 70 years earlier.

The story culminates in the arrival of their first guests – keen fishermen eager to explore the depths of the mighty Ebro River. Witnessing their joy as they pursue their dreams of catching huge carp and catfish is a highlight of their adventure.

Interspersed with tales of rural life are explorations of idyllic mountain villages throughout northeastern Catalonia, from the Knights Templar fortress in Miravet to the fields of Horta Saint Joan, where a young Picasso once sketched local farmers. Laughter and local charm abound in this easy-to-read and heartwarming memoir.

"There is a humility in author and narrator Rachel Cusk’s voice that makes this analysis feel earnest, not cold. There is no judgment in her tone, but instead a tenacity that doesn’t let up until every aspect, flattering or not, of M's psyche has been uncovered." — Kirkus ReviewsFrom the critically acclaimed author of the Outline trilogy, an irresistible novel of fame, power, beauty, and truth—and a blazing renovation of the form. This program is read by the author. The movie star M is one of the most recognizable faces of our time. Her image is everywhere. It has been like that since she was a child. With such fame, her life has the appearance of freedom: people are instantly obliging, spaces are altered to accommodate her, time can be rearranged. M may live in the same places as real people. She may meet her friends or collect her children from school or walk her dogs as they do. But it seems the rules of reality have melted away. Now, a writer has decided to pay close attention to M’s life in the hope of understanding who she really is. It is hard not to feel ugly next to M, hard not to feel insignificant. But what truths—about the very experience of living—might this proximity allow the writer to briefly capture? In this astonishing novel, Rachel Cusk hunts for these truths without ever swerving away into self-deception. Her pursuit leads us across olive groves and beaches, behind the smoked windows of limousines, and through beautiful cities considered the great masterpieces of civilization. And at every turn, Cusk contemplates the cost of this beauty—and what we might lose when we are hypnotized by it.Life of M is a thrilling investigation of who we are, and who we pretend to be, at this late stage of modern life when we are mesmerized more than ever by the images we see everywhere. It cuts through a world of noise and spectacle to bring us an eerie music of immense power and beauty.A Macmillan Audio production from Farrar, Straus and Giroux
