In 1992, builders demolishing a Devonport home stumbled across a skeleton, triggering an investigation that sent shockwaves across the community. The remains belonged to a woman who had died in the 1930s, and whispers soon emerged of the deadly legacy of Nurse Elspeth Kerr. Now all but forgotten, a series of court trials gripped New Zealand in the early 1930s. Nurse Elspeth Kerr was formally accused of poisoning her husband, her foster daughter and an elderly resident at her Devonport nursing home, and other victims were also suspected. Bodies were exhumed, top lawyers were engaged, expert witnesses were called, and the public waited with baited breath for each next revelation. The Trials of Nurse Kerr lays out the untold story of Elspeth Kerr, her victims and the twists and turns of bringing the case to justice. Applying a modern understanding of poisoning cases to the events of the time, and with his trademark meticulous research and insight, Scott Bainbridge reveals the tale of a woman who may well have been New Zealand's most prolific poisoner.

Venture deeper into the abyss with Most Dangerous Serial Killers: Volume 3, where the darkness becomes all-consuming and the boundaries of human depravity stretch beyond comprehension. In this gripping third installment, author Evan Russell uncovers yet another collection of history's most terrifying predators—individuals whose cunning, pathology, and emotional detachment enabled them to operate in plain sight while orchestrating campaigns of terror.
Exploring fresh territory across diverse time periods, geographies, and killing patterns, Volume 3 delves into cases defined by meticulous planning, psychological warfare, and an ability to exploit systemic vulnerabilities. From master manipulators who weaponized trust to perpetrators whose crimes revealed unprecedented failures in criminal justice systems, these narratives illuminate how evil adapts, refines, and persists. Each chapter carefully reconstructs the physical and behavioral evidence, the investigative dead ends and eventual revelations, and the underlying psychological mechanisms that sustained their lethal compulsions. Rigorously researched and unflinchingly honest, this volume ventures even further into the psychology of serial murder—forcing readers to grapple not only with the horrifying acts themselves, but with the systemic breakdowns that allowed them to continue undetected.

A story of love, marriage, and flowers from beloved writer and gardening enthusiast Alysia Li Ying Sawchyn
Six months before her wedding, Alysia Li Ying Sawchyn’s fiancé broke off their engagement. Stunned, reeling, and newly uninsured, Alysia married her friend Sarah in an arrangement that secured them both free health insurance. They moved in together in the midst of the pandemic, and with time and while tending a garden, their marriage of convenience grew into a marriage of love.
In science, art, and mythology, we cannot help but to see flowers as metaphors for the fleeting nature of youth, vitality, and love. It’s easy to casually admire something beautiful, but it takes a discerning eye to appreciate the effort that went into nourishing and tending to that beauty. In both gardening and relationships, one cannot expect to fill your garden with flowers if you are unwilling—or unable—to put in the work they need to thrive. In I Have This Thing For Flowers, Sawchyn does just that, likening the many flowers she has grown in her gardens to a range of relationships and moments of her life, reflecting on topics from motherhood to perfumery to scientific illustration.
Cataloguing many of the great romances and loves of her life like an herbarium of flowers preserved from the garden, Sawchyn examines the kinds of love that can't be explained.

In this book, we delve into the compelling story of Rosa Parks, an ordinary woman who played an extraordinary role in the civil rights movement that reshaped the course of our nation. Rosa Parks' name is synonymous with the fight for justice and equality. Her actions, driven by a deep-seated belief in the inherent rights of all individuals, ignited a spark that set off a wave of change. Born in a time of stark racial segregation and inequality, Rosa's story is one of courage, defiance, and the pursuit of a better world. Through these pages, we'll uncover the key moments that defined Rosa's journey, starting from her early life in the racially divided Alabama of the 20th century. From her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott to her involvement in the broader struggle for civil rights, we'll explore the events that shaped her path and the impact she left on society. But this book isn't just about history; it's about understanding the person behind the icon. We'll not only examine the significant events but also unravel the messages she carried and the ideals she championed. Rosa's dedication to justice and equality didn't end with her activism; it extended to her message for the youth, her vision for a just society, and her profound reflections on life itself.
