Sinopse

The Collected Works bring together a compelling array of essays and speeches that capture the dynamic interplay of themes central to American political, social, and historical discourse. With a tapestry that intricately weaves the nuanced reflections on democracy, leadership, and the American spirit, this anthology showcases a diverse range of literary styles that move from the foundational to the highly contemplative. The collection not only reveals an enduring testament to the clashing ideals of its era but also marks the evolution in thought and style from rhetoric to reflective prose, making it a significant contribution to understanding the literary and cultural fabric of its time. Curated by luminaries Theodore Roosevelt and Henry Cabot Lodge, both distinguished figures in their own right, the works reflect their deep commitment to and understanding of the American ethos. Roosevelt, renowned for his assertive spirit and vigorous progressivism, and Lodge, noted for his influential career and nuanced diplomacy, here converge to provide a unique lens on late 19th and early 20th-century America. This collaboration reflects their shared vision, enriched by a blend of political acumen and philosophical insight, capturing the zeitgeist of their respective environments and professions. For the keen reader eager to traverse the heights of American intellectual thought, The Collected Works offers a profound introduction into multifaceted perspectives woven together by two celebrated figures. Its educational value lies in its breadth, offering insights into the turbulence and triumphs of American history and thought. This anthology invites an engaging dialogue across boundaries of discipline and time, encouraging readers to consider the ongoing legacies and the resonant power of words in shaping historical narratives.

Before the podcast and the smartphone, there was the cassette tape and the Walkman — two devices that, although not considered much today, were revolutionary. They were recordable, rewritable, spliceable, compact, and mobile. For the first time, they allowed you to move through the world and listen to a voice speaking only to you. These cassette tapes brought us together, pulled us apart, and forever changed how we say those three simple words, ‘I love you.’ In five episodes from around the world, Mixtape explores the impact the cassette had and continues to have today.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft is among the greatest American masters of fantasy and the supernatural.
Born in 1890, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, his health was uncertain from childhood and he led a sheltered early life. His semi-invalidism enabled him to read omnivorously, and as a shy imaginative child he began to invent what would in his adult life become a whole macabre fantastic world of his own, peopled by creatures out of his own weird imagination.
As an adult he was retiring, almost a recluse. Tall, thin and pale, but with bright alert eyes, he was much given to wandering his native city in the dark hours of the night, and he became a devoted student of its antiquities.
Although he began to write early he had nothing published until he was in his twenties. He set many of his stories around the imaginary town of Arkham, and invented an entire mythology of his own, its core being the demoniac cult of Cthulhu, based on the lore or legend that the world was at one time inhabited by another race who, in practising black magic, lost their foothold or were expelled, yet live on outside, ever ready to take possession of this earth again.
Since his early death in 1937 his stories have continued to attract attention and praise from an ever-growing audience.
