Sinopse

Mind your Business is a compilation of the success stories of prominent South African businesspeople, from entrepreneurs to chief executives of multinational business giants.

This book is the outgrowth of South African channel kykNet's popular TV series Sakegesprek met Theo Vorster. After many inquiries from viewers, Theo decided to summarise his 38 interviews from the show in book form and to share these informative and inspiring conversations with readers. Each chapter tells the story of a business leader's personal journey to success, including the setbacks and obstacles that had to be overcome. Theo explains key principles and offers some of his own observations about his interaction with the business people. This book is intended for anyone who is interested in the success stories of business leaders and would like to apply some of the key principles in their own enterprises or careers.

Engage conflict to strengthen connections and build understanding.   Conflict is inevitable. But rather than approaching conflicts as threats or problems to be solved, what if we could see our disagreements as opportunities for personal growth? Could our differences push us toward developing healthier relationships and communities? In The Space Between Us, facilitator and mediator Betty Pries gently guides readers toward seeing discord as an opportunity for positive change and a way to build resilience. Rooted in the conviction that conflict can strengthen our relationships and deepen our self-knowledge, Pries offers practical skills for engaging conflict and casts a vision for a more joy-filled future.   To get here, Pries plumbs the depth of both conflict theory and contemplative spirituality, proposing a vision for engaging conflict in new and life-giving ways. Rooted in Christian practices of mindfulness, connecting with our most authentic selves, and deep listening to uncover new possibilities, this book offers new ways forward in the face of interpersonal and organizational conflicts.

    The Big Change - America...

During the first fifty years of the twentieth century, the United States saw two world wars, a devastating economic depression, and more social, political, and economic changes than in any other five-decade period before. Frederick Lewis Allen, former editor of Harper's Magazine, recounts these years—spanning World War I, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression, World War II, and the early Cold War—in vivid detail, from the fashions and customs of the times to major events that changed the course of history. Politically, the United States grew into its own as a global superpower during these years, even as domestic developments altered the everyday lives of its citizens. The introduction of the automobile, mass production, and organized labor changed the way Americans lived and worked, while innovations like penicillin and government regulation of food safety contributed to an increase in average life expectancy from forty-nine years in 1900 to sixty-eight years in 1950. With the development of a strong, centralized government, a thriving middle class, and widespread economic prosperity, the nation emerged from the Second World War transformed in virtually every way. Richly informative, The Big Change is an indispensable volume charting the many changes that ushered in our contemporary age.
