Sinopsis

When Tessa Blackstone moved in to 2 Gower Street, London, she was delighted to discover that a previous tenant had been Millicent Garrett Fawcett, the suffragist leader who dedicated her life to securing women's right to vote. But Tessa could not find a recent biography of this impressive woman, as the historical narrative favoured the militant suffragettes over the suffragists, who campaigned within the law and disapproved of violence. Some years later, Tessa resolved to fix the omission herself and began to uncover Millicent's life story.
Growing up in a large family in Suffolk, Millicent and her sisters challenged Victorian views about the role of women in their pursuit of education, employment and enfranchisement. Getting married at twenty did not deter Millicent from becoming a writer and feminist campaigner. Her husband Henry Fawcett, a blind academic and Liberal politician, shared her views and encouraged her. She was devastated by his early death, but her grit and determination kept her going. Over many decades, she battled against indifference and prejudice and was successful in not only winning women the vote but also fighting for improvements in their educational opportunities and employment prospects.
Brimming with charming anecdotes about Millicent's life from cradle to grave, this is the definitive biography of an extraordinary activist and campaigner who changed Britain's political landscape for ever.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced,"[and William Faulkner called him "the father of American literature" His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He served an apprenticeship with a printer and then worked as a typesetter, contributing articles to the newspaper of his older brother Orion Clemens. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. His humorous story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", was published in 1865, based on a story that he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention and was even translated into French. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty. Twain earned a great deal of money from his writings and lectures, but he invested in ventures that lost most of it—such as the Paige Compositor, a mechanical typesetter that failed because of its complexity and imprecision. He filed for bankruptcy in the wake of these financial setbacks, but in time overcame his financial troubles with the help of Henry Huttleston Rogers. He eventually paid all his creditors in full, even though his bankruptcy relieved him of having to do so.

Humans often gravitate toward toxicity, dazed by love and familiarity. This blind compliance traps them, demonstrating how easily attachment can obscure clarity and affix them to unhealthy environments. James Douglas's book Under an August Moon is a coarse and intimate memoir that outlines the severe undermining of a toxic relationship. Beginning with the heartache of personal loss and moving through the rough stages of an abusive marriage, Douglas incorporates a story that is as emotionally engrossing as it is brutally honest. Furthermore, the book grasps the sophistications of love, betrayal, and self-discovery in a setting of small-town life and societal intimidations. One quality that makes this account distinctive is its analysis of the psychological toll of manipulation and gaslighting. Here, Douglas shares the subtle early warning signs that many overlook, presenting a stimulating consideration of how easily love can morph into control. His unrestrained narrative urges readers into the emotional delicacies of his journey—from moments of transient happiness to the suffocating hold of abuse. Fundamentally, this book attests to stability and the intrepidity required to reframe one's identity. Douglas's journey proposes hope to anyone entangled in the shadows of toxic relationships, illustrating that freedom, though messy, is always within reach.

The Unholy Silence is a harrowing true account of one family’s descent into spiritual warfare after moving into a seemingly ordinary home in Idaho. What began as a fresh start quickly spiraled into a nightmare of ghostly apparitions, shattered mirrors, demonic voices, and eerie manipulations that targeted their children, faith, and sanity.
Told with raw honesty and emotional depth, this memoir follows the author—a devoted husband, father, and Catholic—as he battles unseen forces that twist reality, test his beliefs, and slowly dismantle the life he built. From a terrifying mockery of his daughter to unholy rituals discovered in the shadows, every chapter peels back another layer of haunting.
But perhaps the most chilling aspect of all is the silence—the silence of the Church, of friends, of reason—and the silence that falls when the attacks stop… after he gives up fighting.
This is not a tale of victory. This is a reckoning.
Perfect for readers of real-life paranormal encounters, spiritual memoirs, and psychological horror grounded in truth, The Unholy Silence will stay with you long after the final page.
