Beschreibung

In the untamed West, legends are forged in gunsmoke and grit. Rhys Morgan never asked to be one of them. At fourteen, he avenged the murder of his family and earned a reputation that drew every glory-seeking gunslinger his way.

Under the guidance of Marshal Atticus Flint, Rhys heads to Arizona and trades his six-shooter for a plow. But when his mentor is gunned down by men from the Rocking P ranch, Rhys has no choice but to return to the life he tried to leave behind.

Facing the blood-soaked trail waiting for him, Rhys must tame a lawless town on the brink of war and protect the people he’s come to care for.

A gritty, fast-paced western, THE WACO KID is the first book in the Fast Gun series by Terence Newnes.

Set in Peru in the summer of 1714, this novel tells the tale of a group of interrelated people who perish following the collapse of an Inca rope bridge. A Franciscan friar, Brother Juniper, witnesses the accident and sets out to find out more about each victim, seeking answers—cosmic or otherwise—as to why they had to die. In his quest, Brother Juniper spends six years trying to interview as many people that knew the victims as he can, seeking to prove that both their beginning and their end was part of God's plan for each victim. In doing so, he hopes to document empirical evidence of God's Divine Providence. Winner of the 1928 Pulitzer Prize and the bestselling work of fiction that same year, this novel is exploration of the meaning of a person's life beyond their personal choices.

In the unforgiving landscape of South Australia, 1883, a young boy vanishes during a dust storm, and a whole town fractures under the weight of fear, guilt, and hope. The Sun Walks Down is a haunting, deeply human exploration of loss, resilience, and the invisible ties that bind a community together. Told through the eyes of grieving parents, searching strangers, an outsider artist, a conflicted reverend, and an Aboriginal tracker whose quiet wisdom cuts through chaos, this story unfolds as both a suspenseful search and an emotional reckoning.

Each chapter draws you deeper into the heart of a town unraveling—and transforming. With lyrical intensity and cinematic atmosphere, this powerful novel invites listeners to confront what lies beneath the surface when life is interrupted, and what it truly means to find meaning in the aftermath.

Perfect for listeners drawn to emotionally immersive fiction, historical drama, and the profound beauty found in human connection against all odds.

"More than a thriller—it’s an escape from reality and the perfect tonic at the end of a hard day.”—Orlando Sentinel

It's not easy being the Godfather. All those secrets and all that guilt add up to a terrible burden—a weight that's killing Vincente Delgatto. When the old man travels to Key West for a visit with his illegitimate son—Joey Goldman, the unlikely hero of FLORIDA STRAITS—Joey floats the idea of a conscience-easing memoir, to be written in collaboration with a local reporter.

It's a well-intentioned but extremely dangerous idea, since no one—not the Mafia, not the FBI, not the legitimate heir to the Delgatto family business—wants to see that memoir published. Will Vincente live long enough to get a lifetime's worth of secrets off his chest? Will writer Arty Magnus ever actually finish a book? For that matter, will Bert the Shirt and his chihuahua Don Giovanni ever enjoy a completely successful walk, and are there punishments enough on earth for Gino, the ingrate son who'd rat out his own father?

Balancing suspense and humor, double-crosses and tenderness, SUNBURN is both a full-throttle crime novel and a touching meditation on family, old age, and the many shades of human loyalty.

Katherine Mansfield was born on 14th October 1888 into a prominent family in Wellington, New Zealand the middle child of five.
A gifted Cello player, at one point she thought she might take it up professionally the young Katherine’s first writings were published in school magazines.
At 19 Katherine left for Great Britain and met the modernist writers D.H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf with whom she became close friends.
She travelled to Europe before returning to New Zealand in 1906 she began to write the short stories that she would later become famous for. Her stories often focus on moments of disruption and frequently open rather abruptly. In this volume of her poetry her views on life are certainly reflected in her works. By no means is her work great but it is certainly full of interest and observations that make it essential reading for anyone in thrall to her other works.
By 1908 she had returned to London and to a rather more bohemian lifestyle. A passionate affair resulted in her becoming pregnant but married off instead to an older man who she left the same evening with the marriage unconsummated. She was then to miscarry and be cut out of her mother’s will (allegedly because of her lesbianism).
In 1911 she was to start a relationship with John Middleton Murry a magazine editor and although it was volatile it enabled her to write some of her best stories.
During the First World War Mansfield contracted extrapulmonary tuberculosis, which rendered any return or visit to New Zealand impossible and led to her death at the tender age of 34 on January 9th 1923 in Fontainebleau, France.

And both were the last men standing . . .

This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Now that the war's over, Trace and Chaw travel the West together. They're handy with six-guns and gut-shredders, fond of women and liquor, and always ready to raise hell. Exiled and left for dead at fifteen after the catastrophic Battle of Stiklestad, Prince Harald Sigurdsson’s life of privilege is shattered. Fueled by a burning ambition, he forges a new path across the known world, becoming a legendary commander in the elite Varangian Guard of the Byzantine Empire. He amasses a vast fortune and a fearsome reputation as the "Bulgar-Burner," a man who has learned the brutal art of power in the world's most dangerous city. But the lure of his lost kingdom calls to him, and he returns to the north a harder, more ruthless man, ready to claim his birthright with the same cold iron he used to conquer for an emperor.
Now, in the fateful year of 1066, the English throne is vacant, and Harald sees his final, ultimate prize. Forging an alliance with a bitter English exile, he gathers the largest Viking invasion fleet in a generation to make his last great gamble. But as he stands on the cusp of creating a great northern empire, he is unaware that his own hubris has set the stage for a single, bloody battle at a place called Stamford Bridge—a battle that will not only decide his fate, but will mark the violent, dramatic, and legendary end of the Viking Age.
