Summary

Israel is an orphaned kitten adopted by a girl named Filastin, who provides him with shelter, food, and lots of love. However, month after month, Israel takes over every inch of the house, relegating Filastin to a few uncomfortable corners. One day, the girl decides to rebel and engages in a battle with the feline, only to be defeated. It will only be thanks to the intervention of three women ”experts in complicated solutions” (Africa, Europe, and America) that Filastin and Israel manage to reach an agreement for peaceful coexistence.

A fairy tale to never stop believing in peace, Israel is a kitten who, shortly after birth, loses his mother to a wicked man with the intention of exterminating all the cats in the world. It's Filastin, a splendid girl, who finds him hungry and frightened under a sage bush. She has no doubts about what to do: feed him, take care of him, and give him a safe place to live peacefully. Thanks to the love of the young girl, Israel grows strong and beautiful. Day after day, he captures Filastin's heart, and month after month, he also conquers her home. When she realizes it, it's already too late...

Do you know every nook and cranny of your neighborhood? How about UNDER your neighborhood?
Do you let your kids walk home from school? It's just a few blocks, right? What lurks in the shadows? In the bushes? Or scarier yet, under the bushes?
Or is it all just happy-go-lucky Huckleberry Finn and exploring and adventuring in your own neighborhood? When do you know the difference? Maybe your kids know. Maybe they don't. How will you learn?
It began as a simple walk home, the same one we did every day after school. But our dog's ball went into something of a hole, or was it a cave? Maybe a tunnel. But are there tunnels in the city? The ball was pretty close to the entrance, but just far enough to be a little spooky. Should we just forget it?
WARNING TO PARENTS: there are some questionable parenting decisions in this book. It is not intended as a parenting handbook. There's a fine line between making the right decision and making the fun decision. When to choose which? How much do you involve your children in daily decisions? What if they involve danger? But what if your kids think it might be fun? You get the idea. Maybe I need a disclaimer ... ;-)
You know in scary movies when you yell, "Don't go in there!" We went in. Yeah, I know. Ask your 8-year old why.

Bambi is the beloved story of a young deer’s early years and coming of age in a forest with many dangers. Because deer are prey for humans, Bambi is taught from a young age about the dangers he will face and warned to always be cautious. He, and all the other creatures in the forest, fear humans.

The novel skips through bits of Bambi’s life to show him growing up, falling in love, experiencing loss and heartbreak, and learning more about humans each time he encounters them. Each encounter frightens him and solidifies his fear of the power of humans, until he makes a discovery about the harm that humans inflict on one another. As he grows up, Bambi discovers the true nature of power and compassion, and will come to understand his place in the balance of living creatures.

The story is a challenging exploration of the impact of humans on the natural world and creatures, but has all the charm of a coming-of-age novel. Bambi’s themes remain relevant and meaningful to readers nearly a century after its original publication.
