Sinopse

1975 was shaping up to be Joe Holland's year. Everything was clicking into place. In the first few months he'd passed his driving test, completed his electrical apprenticeship and was approaching his twenty first birthday, when he'd gain access to his deceased grandfather's inheritance money. Apart from his toxic relationship with his stepfather, life was good. But in May, a family skeleton came rattling out of the cupboard where it had been hidden for decades. Joe was to learn that every tree, including a family tree, was only as strong (or weak) as it's roots. And his was about to come toppling down. Once over the initial shock, his search for answers, and resolution, would take him from the leafy suburbs of Hertfordshire to the mean streets of New York City, and a date with destiny.

When you’re a hostage of your own nightmare...
As the Shadow Island Historical Society prepares to raise funds to restore the island’s beloved lighthouse, someone else has other lethal plans. Instead of the presentation the group hopes for, they attract the attention of a madman claiming the historic monument is his family legacy before firing several shots and barricading the doors.
Now, one hostage is dying and the rest fear for their lives.
Interim Sheriff Rebecca West is no hostage negotiator, but she’ll do whatever it takes to ensure the elderly captives are safely released. Especially when the perp turns out to be a local boy recently released from the mental hospital where he’d been committed since his mother abandoned him and his father. By all accounts, he’s disturbed but harmless.
    Or is he?
He’s making outlandish assertions about the disappearance of his mother that don’t make sense. And identifying missing persons who disappeared miles away. Are these accusations merely the delusions of mentally unstable man? Or is something more nefarious going on?
From its shocking beginning to the jaw-dropping conclusion, Shadow’s Hostage—the sixth book in the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes—will make you realize we all see what we want to see, even if it’s not true.

Marina: If I hear the name Chiral Hall again, it will be too soon. He is the one person at Ballad U that I can't stand and it's just my luck that my besties are dating his. Just when I think things can't get worse, I get suckered into tutoring him for the rest of the semester. Most would buckle under the pressure I'm constantly under but I've recently found a good stress reliever. When I started my Main Fan's account it was just a way to pay for my education, I wasn't expecting him.

Chiral: I feel like I'm a pretty decent guy so I don't understand why Marina avoids me like you would the locker room full of hockey players after a grueling practice. No matter her reasons, I plan to break down her walls in any way possible because of that feeling in my gut. The feeling that is telling me once she lets you in, it's game over and I'm okay with that. Marina is the type of girl that you would move hell and earth for just for a genuine smile and to see the sparkle in her eyes that at times is shadowed with sadness from her past. It may not be right but when I find her Main Fans account, I can't pass up the chance to connect with her on a different level. When everything is on the line? You have to take that scoring chance.

They agree to keep the hotel open through the busy summer season for the sake of the island’s quirky but well-meaning residents, after which Amelia plans to return home to start rebuilding her disastrous life.Amelia and James must work together to determine how to get out of their situation―easier said than done for Amelia, who’s started to feel a strong spark of attraction for James. But Amelia is sure her real life is waiting for her back in San Francisco. Is it time for Amelia to return home or could this be the second chance at a new life she didn’t know she wanted?

The math is bleeding. The foundation is a lie.
For twenty-six years, Render Auditor Bryony Bracken worshipped the flawless arithmetic of the Lex Engine. In the towering, sterile tiers of the Crucible, human emotion is a taxable offense, and survival is purchased with suffering. Bryony's job was simple: balance the ledgers and punish the anomalies. But when she uncovers a microscopic discrepancy hidden in the deepest layers of the system's foundational code, she shatters a prime encryption to find a horrifying truth. The Engine isn't fair. It is a predatory mechanism rigged to harvest the souls of the marginalized.
Now a traitor to the highest authorities of the ruling class, Bryony flees into the unmapped, deadly fringes of the digital purgatory with an explosive data drive. There, she discovers the impossible: the Ghost-Tier sanctuary. An off-grid rebellion where people live, love, and exist without a Render score. At the heart of it all is Flynn Decker—a man the system refuses to recognize, and the first person to look at Bryony not as an equation, but as a woman.
The Final Ledger, the gripping third volume in Joseph Pepe's The Weight of Rendered Souls, is a devastating descent into cyberpunk dystopia, dark romance, and psychological suspense. As the Lex Proxies hunt her down and the spark between Bryony and Flynn ignites into a dangerous flame, she must decide whether to save her mathematically perfect universe—or burn it to the ground.
