Summary

This book tells you what kind of movies have rarely or never been made and warns you about saturated niches. Authors and screenwriters might want to avoid those. The lower the frequency meter, the more unique the concept.

These statistics are based on about 3000 horror and horror-adjacent movies I’ve reviewed and rated. 30 subgenres and 8 formulas were combined, resulting in 232 permutations. The best movies for each subgenre/formula combination are listed to reinforce the writing prompt.
Available since: 03/29/2023.

"Dale writes candidly about the challenges she's faced and what she found works. Staying Composed is a treasure trove of practical strategies for moving your artistic career forward... I recommend Staying Composed not only for composers, but for performers, writers, and any other creatives. Too many of us harbor fantasies of a short cut to 'making it,' instead of building our own career success, step by step, from where we are right now. Thank you, Dale, for writing this book to help us on the journey." —Angela Myles Beeching, author of Beyond Talent: Creating a Successful Career in Music
All artists have doubts and anxieties. What are yours? Managing procrastination, anxiety, and creative blocks? Knowing how to trust your work? Dealing with other people? Balancing the need to push through to the end of a work while keeping your health and sanity? Handling rejection . . . and your own success?
Dale Trumbore has faced each of these issues, and Staying Composed: Overcoming Anxiety and Self-Doubt Within a Creative Life is her answer. With humor and understanding, Dale breaks down each obstacle to a creative career and presents workable strategies for a long-range, manageable, and meaningful life in the arts.

"An innovative and unusual account of Star Trek’s lost voyages that makes for a fascinating alternate history." — Brian J. Robb in Sci-Fi Bulletin

SPACE. THE FINAL FRONTIER. THESE WERE ALMOST THE VOYAGES OF THE STARSHIP ENTERPRISE.

We think we know the history of Star Trek. Born at the height of 1960s popular culture, the five-year mission of Captain James T. Kirk and his crew faced early cancellation, bounced back with a series of beloved movies in the 1980s and gave way to a fleet of successful sequels and spin-offs that kept on exploring strange new worlds.

In Lost Federations: The Unofficial Unmade History of Star Trek, author A. J. Black tells a different story. This is an alternate history of the franchise, one filled with roads not taken, from early 1960s feature-films and spin-offs, the original sequel Star Trek: Phase II in the 1970s, via epic planned movies such as Planet of the Titans and into many untold episodes, arcs and character stories from The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, all the way through to the modern era.

Bringing together pre-existing material over decades for the first time in one space, plus some new reflections from Star Trek writers and analysis of how it all fits into the wider cultural trends of the last sixty years, Lost Federations invites you to boldly explore a history you may not already know...

‘The game isn’t what it seems from the outside. The game isn’t quite what I was expecting. The game doesn’t always work like the people on television think it does. The game is better, worse and stranger than you can imagine, and that is coming from someone who saw it all with their own eyes.’
Ever wondered what really goes on inside a Premier League dressing room, what it’s like to train under Roy Hodgson, Roberto Mancini and Fabio Capello – and what happens when you kick a sandwich at one of them?
When it comes to football, former Manchester City and England star Micah Richards has seen it all – and laughed about most of it. In The Game, Micah shares his funniest and frankest stories from on and off the pitch, be it arriving at his first England training session with two left boots, attempting to supervise the infamous Mario Balotelli or winding up Roy Keane on Super Sunday. From how he spent his first Premier League paycheque and how he prepared – financially and mentally – for the day they stopped coming, to the euphoria of lifting the Premier League trophy and the physical and emotional impact of injury, Micah reflects openly on the many wins and losses in professional football.
Full of Micah’s signature cheeky wit, this intimate, unmissable memoir goes behind the scenes of the beautiful game and a remarkable life and career.
In this riveting autobiography, Micah Richards delves into the personal growth he experienced in the world of soccer, a sport that is as much a performing art as it is a recreation. His journey to success, filled with both wins and losses, is a testament to his resilience and determination.
For fans of Peter Crouch (How to Be an Ex-Footballer), Ian Wright (A Life in Football), Guillem Balagué (Maradona), Gary Neville (The People's Game), and Mark Noble (Boleyn Boy).
