Sinopsis

This book tells you what kind of fantasy films have rarely or never been made and warns you about saturated niches. Authors and screenwriters might want to avoid those. The lower the frequency meter, the more unique the concept.

These statistics are based on about 3000 horror and horror-adjacent movies I’ve reviewed and rated. 8 moods, 31 subgenres, and 63 antagonist types were randomly combined; one for each page for a total of 100 dark writing prompts. Titles of existing movies belonging to each mood/subgenre/genre/antagonist combination are listed to further inspire the reader when available.

Nashville is chock-full of music landmarks, but there are quite a few historic structures that have been lost to time. The elegant Maxwell House Hotel served a breakfast blend that grew into the nationally known coffee brand. Public transportation first arrived in Nashville by way of horse-pulled streetcars in the 1860s. Fort Negley was the largest stone fort built during the Civil War. The Nashville Female Academy once served as the largest school for young ladies in the United States during the nineteenth century. Author Elizabeth Goetsch digs into the archives for some of the Music City's lost structures.

In Victorian England, with the country swept up in the Industrial Revolution, the Pre-Raphaelites, close to William Morris' Arts and Crafts movement, yearned for a return to bygone values. Wishing to revive the pure and noble forms of the Italian Renaissance, the major painters of the circle such as John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Holman Hunt, in opposition to the academicism of the time, favoured realism and biblical themes over the affected canons of the 19th-century. This work, with its captivating text and rich illustrations, describes with enthusiasm this singular movement which notably inspired Art Nouveau and Symbolism.

Transformations in China explores the sweeping cultural, political, and economic changes that have reshaped China from ancient times to the modern era. This 3-in-1 volume covers pivotal periods in Chinese history, focusing on three major forces of transformation: Modernization and Reform, The Cultural Revolution, and The Silk Road. From the ancient trade routes that connected China to the rest of the world, to the turbulent policies of the 20th century, this book captures the resilience and complexity of a civilization in constant evolution.
The journey begins with the Silk Road, which served as the lifeblood of commerce and cultural exchange for centuries. More than a trade route, it was a corridor for sharing religions, inventions, languages, and ideas between East and West. The narrative then moves to the 20th century, examining The Cultural Revolution, a period of radical upheaval that profoundly altered Chinese society. Spearheaded by Mao Zedong, this political campaign reshaped education, tradition, and family life, leaving a lasting mark on Chinese identity.
Finally, the book explores Modernization and Reform, spotlighting China’s transition from a closed, agrarian state to a global economic superpower. Beginning with Deng Xiaoping’s reforms in the late 20th century, this section details the rapid industrialization, urbanization, and globalization that have defined modern China. Transformations in China presents a sweeping yet accessible account of how a nation has continuously redefined itself—often through conflict, always through change.
