Through his concept of effective altruism, he argues that individuals in affluent societies have a moral obligation to help those in extreme poverty. Using the famous “drowning child” analogy, Singer demonstrates that if we are morally obligated to save a child from drowning in a shallow pond, we should equally be compelled to help those suffering from poverty and preventable diseases, no matter the physical distance.

  In this book, 37 activists, many of them winners of the Awards, write about their causes and discuss the strategies shaped and lessons learnt as they practise the delicate art of advocacy in Singapore. In olden days where ever, Lord Shiva appeared on the planet Earth, in those places Shivalinga came out from the ground naturally such places became Jyotirlingas.
