Summary

The Priestly Blessing in Numbers 6, "The Lord bless you," is one of the most familiar and widely used liturgical texts in Christianity. Although often recited, it is not usually a subject of in-depth study.

In this addition to the Touchstone Texts series, highly regarded Old Testament scholar Stephen Chapman provides a detailed, engagingly written exposition of the Priestly Blessing as well as a broader exploration of blessing in the Old Testament. He explores the historical and liturgical use of the Priestly Blessing in the Jewish and Christian traditions and discusses key issues related to the practice of blessing within contemporary Christianity. His interpretation of the Priestly Blessing highlights the importance of the divine name and the way the blessing offers a vision of religious faith as "name bearing." Chapman's volume will be a helpful resource for pastors and seminarians and an important reminder to all Christians of the centrality of blessing to the life of faith.

The Touchstone Texts series addresses key Bible passages, making high-quality biblical scholarship accessible to the church. The series editor is Stephen B. Chapman.
Available since: 08/26/2025.
Print length: 232 pages.

The Sexual State - How Elite...

The Sexual Revolution - and the breakdown of the Family - has brought misery to millions. In The Sexual State Jennifer Roback Morse shows that the Sexual Revolution did not just “happen” like a force of nature. Rather, it was deliberately created by “elites,” harnessing the power of the State, allowing them to inflict three false and calamitous ideologies – contraception, divorce, and gender – that have led to widespread and profound unhappiness, and worse.
The ideas of the Sexual Revolution did not emerge from the lived experiences of ordinary people, the government has been imposing the morality of an out-of-touch elite class on the rest of us for decades.
The Sexual State turns the conventional wisdom on its head to reveal how:The Sexual Revolution is and always has been a creation of the StateSocial issues are unified and can be understood as the outgrowth of a few simple (but gravely flawed) principles.Children have identity and relational rights with respect to their parents…and how the Sexual State denies children these rights.
Social conservative ideas and traditional Catholic morality are getting clobbered. And the dirty secret that no one wants to acknowledge – until now! - is that the progressive social elites have rigged the system. Most people don’t love abortion, or divorce, or single-parent families! Thankfully, Dr. Morse, and the Catholic Church, have the answer. It is vital that those who would change the culture understand how we got there, otherwise, the countering tactics will remain important.
In this masterful take-down of the Sexual Revolution and its promoters, Morse calls for a widespread adherence to the principles of the Church. Only then will our society recover from the misrule of “the elites” and the “managerial class.”

What will you find when you allow yourself to go deeper?
You’re not satisfied with the dry ground of religious intellectualism. You’re not satisfied with just dipping your toes into a shallow spirituality. You want to know the heart of God more intimately. You want to encounter God in the deep places.
In Deeper Places, pastor and musician Matthew Jacoby shares a rich portrait of authentic spirituality that will help you dive deep beneath the surface to experience the kind of profound joy that the psalmists sang about. For over fifteen years, Jacoby has been studying the Psalms and setting them to music as they were intended. Now he gives you an in-depth look at the Psalms as a pathway to an intimate and satisfying relationship with God.
“Few have understood the Psalms as well as Matthew Jacoby. He has sung them, taught them, and lived them for as long as he can remember. As such, he is a worthy guide for those seeking the more authentic, biblical, and earthy faith found in them.”- Alan Hirsch, author, The Faith of Leap, Untamed, and Right Here, Right Now.
“Deeper Places is about knowing God, not knowing about God. Jacoby’s insights made me want to do something I’d not done for years: to make reading the Psalms a daily part of my life with God.”- Gary W. Moon, director of the Dallas Willard Center at Westmont College; author, Apprenticeship with Jesus.
“This collection of thoughtful reflections on the Psalms is beautifully written and heartfelt. This is a book to be savored.”- Ruth Haley Barton, founder, Transforming Center; author, Invitation to Solitude and Silence.
“Matthew Jacoby is a musician, a theologian, and a pastor-a unique blending of calling and gifting that makes him ideally equipped to explore the ancient Hebrew songbook.”- Stuart Briscoe, author, broadcaster, international speaker.
