Summary

Year 2020: not even the Lock Down due to the COVID 19 pandemic will be able to stop the work of scholar Lucia Balleani and archaeologist Andrea Franciolini, once again committed to discovering mysterious arcana in the heart of the historic center of Jesi. An ancient underground pipeline and an enigmatic stone sphere will represent two puzzles that are difficult for the young couple of researchers to solve. The discoveries of ancient documents and archaeological finds by Andrea and Lucia, will bring us back as usual, to follow the events of the Jesi’s characters of the sixteenth century, their ancestors. The printer Bernardino dictated his last will to a notary before his death, but this is of little interest to the heirs of the Marquis Franciolini and the Countess Baldeschi. The Marquis Alessandro Colocci, husband of Countess Laura Baldeschi, will turn out to be a grim and cowardly character in the service of Pope Paul III, but he will have to deal with the young scion of the Franciolini family, Francesco, very determined in trying to regain possession of the title of Captain of the People, assumed by the Marquis Colocci only by virtue of the fact that he married his older sister Laura.PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

In May 1954, Lionel Kane witnesses his apartment engulfed in flames with his lover and writing partner, Roger Raymond, inside. Police declare it a suicide due to gas ignition, but Lionel refuses to believe Roger was suicidal.
A month earlier, Judy Nightingale and Philippa Watson—the tenacious and troubled heroines from The Savage Kind—attend a lecture by Roger and, being eager fans, befriend him. He has just been fired from his day job at the State Department, another victim of the Lavender Scare, an anti-gay crusade led by figures like Senator Joseph McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover, claiming homosexuals are security risks. Little do Judy and Philippa know, but their obsessive manhunt of the past several years has fueled the flames of his dismissal.
They have been tracking their old enemy Adrian Bogdan, a spy and vicious serial killer protected by powerful forces in the government. He’s on the rampage again, and the police are ignoring his crimes. Frustrated, they send their research to the media and their favorite mystery writer anonymously, hoping to inspire someone, somehow, to publish on the crimes—anything to draw Bogdan out. But has their persistence brought deadly forces to the writing team behind their most beloved books?
In the wake of Roger’s death, Lionel searches for clues, but Judy and Philippa threaten his quest, concealing dark secrets of their own. As the crimes of the past and present converge, danger mounts, and the characters race to uncover the truth, even if it means bending their moral boundaries to stop a killer.

    It takes a thief …

"Le Chat" ("The Cat"), an infamous thief, has come out of retirement and is again liberating expensive jewelry from wealthy tourists on the French Riviera. Or is it a "copycat" who is stealing fortunes?

John Robie thought he had left his larcenous past behind. Once responsible for a string of daring thefts and escapes, he was caught and sent to prison just before the outbreak of World War II. Freed during the German occupation of France, Robie joined the French Resistance and received unofficial amnesty after the war ended. He retired to a simple life in the country where he befriended the local commissaire, Oriol, and tended his gardens. Now it's 1951, and someone has been at work using his old MO. When the police come to arrest him, Robie escapes to Cannes. There, he reconnects with his former comrade Bellini, who convinces Robie to help catch the copycat.

Disguised as a pudgy, middle-aged American businessman, Robie scouts the local nightclubs and casinos and tries to outthink the new thief. When he meets Francie Stevens, the daughter of a wealthy tourist, she becomes Robie's unwelcome ally, and together they hatch a dangerous plan to catch the thief at a gala party. But soon they both realize that Robie really is a thief at heart. With Oriol and the police on his trail, will he escape capture? Will the real thief be caught? And will Robie give up the thief?
