ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
"Gathering Blue" by Lois Lowry tells the story of Kira, a young orphan with a twisted leg, who is taken to live in the Council Edifice after her mother's death. Kira is expected to use her weaving talents to serve the powerful Guardians. In this dystopian society, the truth is manipulated and the past is controlled through the annual Song, presented by the village's Singer. The narrative reveals the secrets and deceptions of the Council as Kira discovers her own unique abilities, and is caught up in a world where individuality is suppressed. The story explores themes of power, control, and the suppression of individuality as well as the importance of art and storytelling.
