Summary

"Child Labor Drops" examines the significant decline in youth employment during the Great Depression, positing that evolving labor laws, often overlooked, substantially shaped young people's lives. This book explores the intersection of political actions, economic hardships, and societal shifts that redefined the role of youth in the American workforce. For instance, while child labor was once common, the economic crisis intensified scrutiny, leading to reforms.

The book analyzes the history by detailing pre-1930s attitudes towards child labor, the impact of the Great Depression, and the legislative landscape, including the New Deal policies. Drawing on government statistics, legislative records, and personal accounts, the book provides a comprehensive view of the era. It challenges conventional narratives by arguing that labor laws, sometimes with unintended consequences, played a critical role in reducing youth employment.

Brahma is the controller of nature in the mode of passion; he is the engineer who creates the universe. Every universe has its Brahma, who appears as the first created being in it. Although Brahma is usually in the category of the jiva soul, he is designated an avatar (incarnation) of Krishna because he is especially empowered with Krishna’s own creative potency. Using the ingredients furnished by Krishna and following Krishna’s blueprints, Brahma constructs the material universe, and then he begets the offspring, called Prajapatis, whose descendants populate all the planets.

Vishnu, who controls nature in the mode of goodness and sustains the creation, is directly the Supreme Lord. In the spiritual kingdom of God, where everything is everlasting, the quality of goodness exists without either passion or ignorance. Therefore it is appropriate that Vishnu personally controls this quality even in the material world, where it becomes bracketed by ignorance and passion.

Shiva, the lord of the mode of ignorance, devastates the universe at the end by his wild, all-annihilating dance. Shiva is a personal expansion of Krishna, not a jiva. Yet, because he comes into intimate contact with the quality of ignorance and with matter (which is innately ignorant), you cannot receive the same spiritual restoration by worshiping him that you do by worshiping Krishna or Vishnu. Shiva is therefore given his own category, shiva-tattva. Learn all about the sacred trinity of yogic lore.

The Sri Brama-samhita is a collection of prayers by Brahma at the beginning of material creation after the Supreme Person Krishna gave Brahma a divine vision of the spiritual world. Brama, in his amazement, speaks volumes of divinely inspired praise before beginning his work of creation. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu acquired the Fifth Chapter of the Brama-Samhita from the Adi-Keshava temple in South India.

In our age of science and psychology, it's tempting to think of human sexuality in terms of biology and interpersonal relationships. But in The Soul of Sex, Thomas Moore regards sex as an experience of the soul and emphasizes the more human themes of fantasy, desire, meaning, and morality. Moore turns especially to the religious traditions of the world, to rites, stories, and visual imagery that see in sex some of the most profound mysteries of life. He finds spirituality inherent in sex, and at the same time explores the many ways in which spiritual values can sometimes wound our sexuality. He recommends chastity and celibacy for everyone, as aspects of sexuality, and presents them as a means of developing a sensuous spirituality.
Moore also establishes the principle that one can't have a fully satisfying sex life in an asexual and anti-erotic world. He spells out an Epicurian way of life where the simple, deep pleasures of good food, friends, family, home and intimacy with nature provide an appropriate sensual base for a fulfilling sex life.
This is an audiobook for any individual, of whatever gender or lifestyle, who is trying to integrate sex into the rest of life. It is also a tool for couples, helping them to explore their sexuality with honesty, with appropriate emotional complexity, and with civility and comfort. Moore argues that sex should be at the center of life and at the top of our priorities, and if we don¹t give sex its due, it will haunt us and take us over. But when sex has soul, deep pleasure and meaning find a common home, and in that sense this audiobook is a sex manual for the soul.
Thomas Moore reads on two cassettes.

    Original Self - Living with...

According to Thomas Moore, people today have lost the deep, direct, and vivid sense of what it means to live with passion and originality.  Moore believes that beneath the many thick layers of indoctrination about who we are and who we should be lies an original self, a person who came into this world full of possibility and destined for a particular life.
The fifty mediations in this collection offer fresh interpretations of living with that original self rather than conformity.  he presents multidimensional portraits of the creative self and different angles from which to tap one's primal emotions and possibilities.  This audio demonstrates what it means to live from the burning essence of the heart, with the creativity that comes from allowing the soul to blossom in its own colors and shapes.
With his usual grace and insight, Moore counters the prevailing assumptions of the day and offers strikingly unorthodox views on what is virtuous and healthy, opening up possibilities for a renewal of the way we live socially and in our private lives.
