~~~~~ PG Excerpt ~~~~~
Edgar sits on the chair in the living room, looking out the window at the hot summer day. His shirt clings to his chest, outlining his hard pectoral muscles. The other thing that's outlined is the thick rod in his pants—theone that doesn't seem to want to go down. This heat will definitely do that, but what also does it is having his 18-year old daughter Katelyn at home all day, walking around and shaking that hot bottom of hers.
Katelyn sits, staring at her History textbook, pretending to read.
Edgar gets up and heads into the kitchen, intent on getting himself some water. But as he does he hears a squeaking coming from underneath the chair in the living room.
"What was that?" Katelyn's voice comes, and she gets up from where she's sitting, looking around at the ground.
"I think it came from under the chair," Edgar says to his daughter. "Come on, help me move it."
"No way," Katelyn says. "If that's a mouse I'm not getting near that thing."
"Come on, stop being a wimp," Edgar says, and Katelyn looks shocked for a moment, but then gives him a challenging look.
"I'm not a wimp!" she says, and she gives her daddy a playful shove. He counters by grabbing her arms, and soon the two of them are horsing around, laughing and squealing as they grapple back and forth.
Inside Katelyn's body she feels completely flushed. She's horsed around with her daddy before, but this time it feels different. In fact, ever since she turned 18 things have felt different. Her virgin core, for instance, is glowing with a deep warmth that usually only comes whenever she's thinking sexy thoughts.
Soon enough they slow down and both Edgar and Katelyn are laughing. They catch their breath and look at each other. For Katelyn that feeling inside of her hasn't gone away. And the way her daddy is looking at her makes her think he's feeling it too.
    The search for the literary life. Satire at its Best!In this indelible and deeply moving portrait of our time, two young people, Beckman and Malany set out on an odyssey to find meaning and reality in the artistic life, and in doing so unleash a barrage of humorous, unintended consequences.Beckman and Malany's journey reflects the allegorical evolution of humanity from its primal state, represented by Beckman's dismal life as a dishwasher to the crude, medieval development of mankind in a pool hall, and then to the false but erudite veneer of sophistication of the academic world.The world these protagonists live in is a world without love. It has every other variety of drive and emotion, but not love. Do they know it? Not yet. And they won't until they figure out why no birds sing here.Meier's writing is precise and detailed, whether the situation he describes is clear or ambiguous.Fans of Franzen and Salinger will find Meier to be another sharp, provocative writer of our time.
    ‘Komatipoort Bridge’ is an exciting story of espionage and Special Forces operations during the Boer War. The book is also a poignant commentary on the British Empire at its zenith. In 1899 the two Boer Republics of the Transvaal and Orange Free State invade the British colonies in South Africa. In doing so, they lose access to British-controlled ports and are forced to rely on a single supply line from the Portuguese-owned harbour at Lourenco Marques which enters the Transvaal over a railway bridge at the tiny settlement of Komatipoort. William Brown, a former Army officer and businessman with a close knowledge of the area, is recruited to choke off the supply line set up by the Boers.
