Summary

One hundred years after Rudolf Steiner presented his lectures on agriculture in 1924, the impact of his words are self-evident. Around the world, biodynamic principles are practised in thousands of thriving farms, vineyards and gardens, and Demeter certification for biodynamic produce is recognized internationally as a mark of quality. Speaking to a modest audience of farmers in a village in modern-day Poland, Steiner launched the first organic agricultural movement. But what has come to be known as 'biodynamics' is distinguished by many unique aspects, including the use of herbal and mineral 'preparations' (which serve as dynamizing applications for compost and field sprays) and the concept of the farm or garden as a single living organism, encompassing animals, crops, soil and community. This definitive, centenary edition of the influential Agriculture Course has been reedited from primary sources to be as faithful as possible to Steiner's original meaning. Shorthand reports have been freshly transcribed, archival discoveries added, and fresh commentary and notes inserted. In addition to the original eight lectures and four discussions, this volume features a wealth of new texts, including notes, addresses and resolutions relating to the Experimental Circle – founded contemporaneously to bridge research and practice – comprehensive facsimiles of Rudolf Steiner's preparatory notes for the course; original programmes and attendee lists; questions sent in advance; written and verbal reports by Steiner, including his address to young people; photos of Koberwitz, and high-quality colour plates of his original blackboard drawings. Eight lectures, four question-and-answer sessions, Koberwitz, June 1924, GA 327

Sarah Brenner was always one of a kind, even with four sisters who dressed just like her. Growing up in an immigrant family on New York City’s impoverished Lower East Side, Sarah’s life was full of things that weren’t fair. It wasn’t fair that her parents had to leave Europe because of their religion. It wasn’t fair they worked hard all day and the family barely had enough to eat. It wasn’t fair how girls were treated in her school.

When she grew up, Sarah gave herself a modern, boyish name, Sydney, just right for a woman who was going to forge her own path and continue to fight for a fairer world. When Sydney’s daughter complained that it wasn’t fair that there were no books about Jewish children like her, Sydney dreamed up a one-of-a-kind children’s book called All-of-a-Kind Family, which is still beloved today.

“I am pleased my mother’s stories allowed Jewish children to finally see themselves in books. I know she would have believed that all children today should have that same opportunity. May every reader of this story know how very special you are and, like my mother, truly one of a kind.”—Jo Taylor Marshall

Experience the transformational power of the sacred, ancient, radical rhythm of Sabbath rest. In the fast-paced, chaotic, overly scheduled cadence of our culture, it can be difficult to imagine how to squeeze the Sabbath into our already over-stuffed lives―like trying to fit an eleventh passenger into an eight-passenger van. What if Sabbath isn’t designed to “fit” into our lives, but rather to take over our lives―in the best way imaginable? Hebrew scholar and Old Testament professor Travis West believes that we’ve misunderstood what it means to truly Sabbath. In his book, The Sabbath Way, Travis takes readers on a spiritual journey to discovering radical rest is more than a weekly practice of taking a day off―it’s also a posture, a way of living every day. It means much more than sleeping in, taking naps, or chilling poolside for an afternoon; instead, the radical rest of Sabbath means putting rest―and delight, gratitude, and flourishing―first rather than last. Using personal story and expert knowledge, Travis shows Christians how to make Sabbath rest the metronome that establishes and maintains our life’s rhythms, apprenticing us to abundance our whole life long. Listeners of this audiobook will discover how the Sabbath: slows us down helps us discover the things that make us feel most alive, freeing us from rigidity and legalism disrupts our cultural obsession with productivity and achievement and cultivates a more life-giving connection between our work and our worth inspires an unhurried, sacramental worldview that sees all of life as a gift safeguards neighborliness, creation care, awareness of God’s presence, justice, belonging and inclusiveness―enabling us to grow into the people God is calling us to be in our lives, our homes, our workplaces, our communities, and our world The Spirit of God longs for you to be fully alive, and the world needs your unique vitality. The Sabbath is calling. Will you come?

Two experts in exegesis and dogmatics show how Christology and the doctrine of the Trinity are grounded in Scripture and how knowledge of these topics is critical for exegesis. The book outlines key theological principles and rules for the exegesis of Christian Scripture, making it an ideal textbook for hermeneutics and interpretation courses. The authors explore how the triune God revealed in Christ shapes Scripture and its readers and how doctrinal rules intrinsic to Scripture help guide exegesis.
